here it is..
tracked my baby twice this year, and have a set of ADV.1's (1 inch wider than oem) on the way. thinking of installing 285's on the rear and streching the fronts and keeping them 275..
should i go for it ?? and if i do .. should i stay on pirellis?? or shift to Michelin??
thoughts??

Don't know your wheel width but the the stock RS5 wheels are 9 inches wide. If you go to tire rack and look at the specs for a 285 tire they say it should go on a wheel at least 9.5 inches wide. Having written that I've thought about doing the same. Some purists may spank you for doing it, you may wear out your center of the tire quicker? Who knows? It will definitely look better but will be a little heavier. I ran 265's on the front and 295s on the back of an S4 on custom made wheels. Again I don't know what wheels you are running.

My thoughts are that the "look" of stretching the front tires isn't worth the extra wear (however minor) to the center differential. Plus I wouldn't want to track a car with stretched tires, even if it is just by a small amount. You would also benefit more on the track by increasing tire width on the front. Michelin all the way for me.

i think 285 corresponds to 9.5ish .. i will be running adv.1's that will be 1 inch wider than oem .. stock forged 20's i have on now are 8.5 inches.. so 285's are the correct size for the upgraded width.. rephrasing the question.. should i slap 285's on the front tires as well ?? or should i strech the 275's ??

i know some people who DRIFT stretched tires.. perfectly safe.. a tire streches around 1.5 inches without breakin a sweat.. thinking of slapping some tire letterings on it too .. it will look badass for real..

I have the oem rims and 285 pass all around. I have tracked the car 4 times and put on 10,000 miles. Tires are still in great shape, no usual wear and have more than half tread left. Put 285 all around they are fine on the track and great looking.

Thanks, good to hear. My plan as well.

I had to go 285's to get michilin pss tires, since they didn't make 275's. I haven't noticed a thing, and i thought for the tire it was worth it.

If one looks at the wheel width spec requirement on the Tire Rack web site for any tire one will find a recommended wheel width. For 285's the minimum width is 9.5 inches yet people are posting they have done it with no problems for thousands of miles and no ill effects.

Understand which is why I'm considering it. I want to get a visual on the amount of bulge though.

Sorry, these are the 285's on the stock wheels correct? Now all you need are spacers, ECS sells a kit for the RS5, 15mm front, 10 mm rear. Don't screw up the bolts in the kit like I almost did! Two different lengths for two different width spacers.

Correct, stock wheels no spacers. Spacers would make it look much better.

Left rear tire, 10mm spacer, stock 275/30 tires. If you go with ECSs kit don't confuse the bolts!

@KmorgsRS5 those actually look way better than I thought they would. I think I'm sold on 285/30ZR20 PSS. Which exact product # is that? Trying to figure out what you got for load.

I'm guessing no rub issues?

Sorry just saw this. No rub issues at all. I will get the product number and post it.

i would go with 305s on the rear.

You'll need some wide wheels for those, 305's.

Does anyone know if 285/30ZR20 Michelin PS A/S 3 on stock suspension will fit just fine?

Why give the rear of the car a wider tire, i don't understand this theory?

An A5 S5 RS5 is already a nose heavy car that will under steer when pushed, now you're giving the front end less grip than the rear so compounding the issue.
Is this just for cosmetic reasons?

I's suggest it is cosmetic. Some of us suffer from "skinny tire syndrome". It's an affliction that causes dizziness when looking at high powered cars with stock street tires on them. One small note. I believe the power distribution is 40% front, 60% rear on our cars. I've found bigger tires on the rear reduce wheel spin on the 1/4 mile strip. Helped a little.

It's variable and self adjusts.

Goes up to 15 front : 85 rear
and 70 front : 30 rear

:)

And since we're on the discussion of cool tech on our cars, here's the sport diff video:

Coming from the vw mark 4 world... That is not stretched at all, lol. You'll be fine. Personally, I don't think that the A5/S5/RS5 body lines support that kind of asthetic like other body styles would but I'd definitely be down to see some stretched tires on them. If you do want to stretch your tires- Nitto's provide the best stretch and you can get them without the lip protector. If you want to get a good idea of what size tire looks good on a certain size rim check out the library at tyrestretch.com.[emoji106]

I had considerable wheel spin in my S4 at the drag strip. Cost me some time. Regardless, when my Pirellis wear out on my RS5 I intend to put 285's on the rear.

Why? 275 fits on the OEM rotors just fine. Are you thinking it will be too much stretch and not enough square?

275 was too much stretch for me on 10.5 for me. Car rode like ass...needed more sidewall

+1 for Mich PSS 285. 275 isn't available, but as Kmorg shows in the pics, they look fine, no bulgy! I got these a while ago and like most would recommend them.

I certainly wouldn't mix rolling circumference size on quattro.
