View Full Version : Audi S4 Demo Discount Expectation

Hello all I'm currently looking into possibly purchasing a new S4. What should I expect as far as mileage discount is concerned for a demo? The car I'm looking at currently has 3k miles and the dealer is offering a $.15/mile discount for the mileage on the vehicle. I think that's ridiculously low and I'd rather just pay the extra $450 for a car with close to 0 miles on the odometer.
I was thinking more of a $3k to $4k discount due to mileage. Am I being reasonable? Should I expect a bigger discount? Or should I expect a lower discount?
Your input is appreciated as I never really purchased a demo before. Thanks all

I wouldnt buy a demo car, ecpecially a sports car which people might beat on. I bet the car was not broken in right. And the discount is too low

HMM I would say somewhere around 15% less, if you get a new one at invoice your somewhere around 5% off , you might want to get get a few quotes from other dealers if they are not willing to negociate.

.15 per mile for the hardest 3k miles the car will likely ever see? especially with no proper break in proceedure? no thanks! that's just asking for trouble.

From my experience with dealers and demos (not Audi or the S4), there is little leeway. The dealer still treats it as a new car, and they try to get as much for it as possible due to this. The most I was able to negotiate down was $600 - $1000 off. Which to me is not worth it. It even got to the point where the sales guy did not even recommend negotiating on a demo because the prices would be too far off.

At one of the dealers I went to which I test drove a new S3 with 20 miles, one of the first things he said was "have you ever launched one of these things?" And we proceded to lauch the car. So I would assume that most other dealerships abuse the cars also.

Thanks for the replies! Frankly when I went in originally to look at the car it was not listed as a demo on their site so I thought I was going to look at a brand new car. Once I got there they told me that it was a demo and it piqued my interest cause I thought I would get a big discount due to the miles. After the $.15/mile quote I wouldn't even think about purchasing it. Also the dealer I went to is relatively small and this was the only white s4 they had and thats the color i like. I will probably end up going to a dealer with a bigger inventory.

I've bought one demo in my life - a 90 Acura Legend Coupe that had about 3K miles on it. Supposedly the dealer's family member drove it on vacation to Florida and that was it. The clutch in that car was never right, and always had made some intermittent noises that couldn't be located. That car convinced me that I would never buy a demo again, even if it was offered at a substantial discount.

$3k - $4k off what, MSRP? That would be terrible since you can get that on something brand new with the ACNA discount.
3k miles on a "demo car" should make it a CPO with an extended warranty.

My car was an Audi HQ executive lease. Bought it with 2800 miles (1 year old). Had it vagcommed at 4500 miles and it had 200 launches left and had been in sport mode less than 10% of it's life (including my mileage).

How do you check how much the car has been in sport mode?

So each test drive is maybe 10-20 miles? So we are talking 150 test drives in the best case? "OOOOOOOOHHHH boy you're gonna love this car, so fast...take this demo S4 for a test drive. Don't worry, we'll order you one with all the options you want. This car is FAST! I'll show you launch control..."
A discount of .15 * 3000 = 450 is the dumbest fricken thing I've ever heard. That is just laughable. I would consider if they took 8k off msrp...and even then I would rather find a CPO.

I would pass on the demo unless it was WELL under invoice. You can buy a 2015 with no miles at invoice.

In all seriousness, if you were to to consider this car, I would look for a 90cent - 1$ off per mile, after you negotiate down from sticker as if it were new, who knows what the total savings would be.

Are they representing the warranty as factory only or adding CPO on top of it? Maybe if they do both, it might be worth it, along with throwing in free Audicare, all of it so you are covered, just in case the 3000 mile warm up was a little too spirited.

Freight and PDI is usually waved and you should get standard discounting if you pushing aggressively.

buy a new one. I got 7.5 % off msrp, others have gotten more. You really do not need a well used car for a new car price RUN AWAY

I had the guys at NGP Racing run a full VAGCOM scan on the car and got the numbers. I believe they got those numbers from the DSG computer.

Well consider this a 1% situation
