My keyless entry has ceased to operate with either key…Is there a way that I can reset this myself?..I have had to change key batteries in both fobs..Please don't tell me it is a dealer only procedure as I am an hour away from the nearest one..Thanks in advance everyone.

Make sure they're not near any phones. For whatever reason these cars don't like it when the fob is near a phone even though the car will still start.

The owners manual should have the procedure for you to do a reset on the keyless entry. I've also read this somewhere: "The keys need to be re-programmed. Here is how you do it... You have to put the key in the ignition, turn the key to the "accessory position", and hold the unlock button for at least 5 seconds. This should do the trick."

Of course since we don't have an "accessory" position, simply turn the ignition on (electronics on, car not started). Hope that helps, otherwise read the manual.

Thanks, I will give it a whirl..I have read the manual and must have missed it..I will look again. Again, thank you for the help..S

Check with Vag Com, you might need to clear codes. Vag Com shows errors when batteries are low, don't know if this still might be affecting you.

Thanks for the advice ..no VAG com available and the reset attempt didn't work..The manual is of no help whatsoever, so I guess I will just go without it unless someone else has any ideas or thoughts..

The sensor in the door handles can fail in early vehicles, this tends to be caused by water ingress into the sensor itself and requires replacement to fix

The sensor was redesigned and is more robust in later vehicles. ie not as susceptible to water ingress.

You can do a scan with VCDS but it will only flag the first failed sensor in the series for example if you scan and it says drivers door sensor has failed and you replace it, you may be presented with the same problem only this time it's the next door sensor along that triggers the fault.

In my case I purchased 4 replacements from a Chinese eBay seller and replaced all door sensors. They were identical to the OEM parts, with genuine Audi part numbers and logos on and have worked flawlessly now for approx 2 years.
