I have the opportunity to buy these in 18x8.5 or 19x8.5 for a good price

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/Daniel_d1981/AUDI/CarlssonStyle.jpg

So i need help.

What do you suggest?
Most of my driving is done to and from work and highway miles
Those of you with 18's and 19's what are your thoughts

I don't have either 18's or 19's, but I think the majority of the 19's don't look right on B5's. There are some cases when a 19 just looks amazing, but if I had to put one on my car, I would chose 18s. But I wouldn't listen too hard to my opinion, it doesn't really mean much.

I like my 19s but the ride is harsh if the road is less than perferct. When I hade 18s on, it was much more bearable. I think those wheels would look good in 19s though.

Thanks for your input Meddie600RR.
I know what you mean about the size, looks good with some chunky rubber.

I'm more concerned about the ride quality, the chance of damaging a rim and rubbing issues when I go lower.

I'm sure that there was an A4 with similar rims in 19's. anyone have pics

I would stay w/ the 18s. you're daily driving, not showing the car

I have to agree 18's make better daily drivers than 19's. I have both sizes and I'm using my 18's over my 19 even though my 19's are way nicer. To put it into perspective here are the sets I have.

18's Crimson K6's

19's Maya STM's

this rims look similar to the ones in the classifieds. I think it depends on your car if they will look good or not. I threw 19's on my car, it they just looked too big.

Here's a pic of the 19's on an A4

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/Daniel_d1981/AUDI/Carlsson.jpg

They look nice but 18's would be more sensible.

Still not convinced though[:(]

How soon are you going to lower your ride?

THe reason I ask is if you slap some 19's on without any lowering, its gonna look like you lifted your A4. 18's are more fitting if you arent going to lower your ride at all.

You mentioned you are going to lower it so if you are really concerned about ride quality the ride will always be better with fatter tires.

What are the wheels made out of, this may allow people to give you suggestions on similarly made wheels just so you know how that wheel type will hold up.

Seeing this pic, 19's are too big. I'm in a debate myself. I'm thinking about switching back to 18's just because I use my car as a commuter and if I drive on anything less than a smooth surface, the 19's feel too rigid.

the 19s make it almost look like an a6 or rs6

Then do what YOU think looks best! [:D]

18's or 19's would be sick in that rim either way.

I think 19's look best but 18's are more practical

It's missing the centre caps still so they look unfinished.

Surprisingly the ride is very nice! I thought it would be a lot bumpier but there isn't too much difference from the 16s I had on before.

NICE!

My car looks ok at the height its at but i would like to drop it another half an inch or so. I'm worried that the wheels will rub as the rims are 8.5wide and I have 235 rubber.

You WILL have to roll your fenders at a minimum. You will be pushing the limits to the max with that size wheel and tire. I passed on some 18" Sportecs because of that.

I would deff go w/ 18". 19" is to big on a b5 IMO, but I think 19's are perfect on b6's.

I did go with 18.

I know what you mean about 19s looking too big

18" is a safe bet.. 19" looks good for a show car.. but for daily driving i would go wth 18"

I noticed that you have 8.5 wide rims on your car, is it 235 rubber?

Also how low is the suspension? (guard to the ground)

I'm now looking at lowering it but the wheels look too wide and that they will rub

whats up with people saying 18's only for daily??

Ive always had 19's on my car and i drove it daily with no issues. LA roads arent exactly the smoothest either.

i think people are just saying 18's are better because they cant afford 19's

sure i like both but either look great

I have 18s and I don't think I would go bigger. 18s already look good on the B5s.

My ride is rough enough with 18s, any bigger and it would almost be unbearable.

I think that if you go with 18s you will be happy with them, in looks and ride. But if you go with the 19s, you may have second thoughts.

That santorin blue A4 in the above pics is mine. No issues what-so-ever yet I will admit that with the tires you do feel everything in the road...but a small price to pay to get looks everywhere.

Trefive, i love the car!

are your wheels 8" wide or 8.5"?

Trefive
09-26-2005, 05:41 PM
Thanks a4play...they are 8.5 on a 40mm offset. No rubbing, but then again I play it safe with 225 tires.

Yeah they're 235's w/ race springs. I had to roll my fenders, but its fine.
