View Full Version : 20k/yr Lease in NY - Term Care & Tire Protection?
Been lurking for a long time here, first post - Excited to be picking up my first S4 in a few days and need to determine if I should get Term Care and/or Tire Protection. I have read lots of opinions on both and understand the general reasons for and against getting them. Curious if the high mileage lease and terrible NY roads would sway anyones thoughts into getting one or both of these options?
Thanks in advance for any insights, experience or advice!

At 20,000 per year isn't it more cost effective to purchase?

LOL....20K per year lease?
Agree, purchasing is almost always the correct financial decision, but the better half of my marriage is happier with a lease. Let's say I decide to purchase instead of lease (and then be able to customize this awesome ride)... Would you go with extended coverage / wheel insurance given expected high mileage and terrible roads?
If you lease the car and will not going to keep her then Audi Care is make sense. I paid $800 for regular service care for length of the warranty this price was included in the leas and bump up residual value to 1% which lowered my monthly lease payments. So, essentially the Audi care costed around $300. If I end up paying for each service visit to the dealer it would cost me a lot more money. Regarding the wheel/tire coverage. I've been offered this service but declined it. Have no problem with my tires or wheels(19"). BTW I leave close to NY City and roads here in NJ are not that great ether after past two winters.

I've looked at Term Care (different than Audi Care, which is a no brainer in a lease) and had a hard time seeing how it's worth it. In NY wheel and tire coverage may be worth it, but check with FD Warranty.com as pricing may be less than dealer. Unless you plan to trade in before lease end, even with a 3-year lease you'll be out of warranty towards the end of the lease so that's something else to think about.
I love my S4 but I think I've had enough of Audi's low residual leases. You can conceivably make up for the low residual on the back end with trade in value, but far less likely with a very high mileage car.

I bought the aftermarket wheel / tire protection plan from my dealer for ~$750.
Yesterday I ran over a nail and the tire needed to be replaced. While I was there, they fixed a bit of curb rash.
Total bill for the day = $750
My out of pocket = $0
The way I see it, everything from here on out is gravy (there is no maximum benefit payout).

dcl, FYI, there is no money factor for 20,000 miles. They are simply pricing out the per/mile cost for the 5,000 overage (15,000 miles is as high of a MF Audi has) and adding it to your lease.
You are basically pre-paying for the extra miles.
It is better to go with 15k, then buy the additional miles half-way through your lease. At this halfway point, Audi offers a deal on buying additional miles.
Your question isn't on lease vs. finance, so I won't go there... but make sure you look at ALL factors.
