So I took my car in last November for the first part of the oil burn test as I was going through about 1qt/2k miles. They did the test and at the end of January when I got the low oil light again. I took the car back to have the oil measured etc. It just so happened that on that day Audi released the recall for the 2012’s and the dealership decided to keep the car and complete the recall swap.
While they had the car but after it was put back together after the recall parts were put in they noticed that one of the injectors had failed and it was replaced. It failed again and was replaced again. That led to a cylinder pressure test but all of the cylinders passed but during the inspection it was noticed that there was some light cylinder scoring and AoA was contacted and they ok’d a replacement engine.
So now my S4 is getting a new engine put in an as it stands the car has about 40k miles on it. Strangely enough I purchased an APR stage 2 intake just before thanksgiving last year and just never got around to putting it in as the weather was too cold so I was going to wait until spring to install.
No I can only imagine things might have gone a little differently with AoA if the intake was installed and I needed to have work done. I’m not saying it would have been denied but I’m not sure it would have gone as smoothly as it did.

Your probably right. AOA would rather blame that intake than pay the dealer 10k for the engine swap.

It is highly unlikely that a CAI would have had any weight on the situation.

Intake install is very simple, it would take 10 mins to swap out before you head to the dealer. Gald your car is being taken care of though.

I would not have taken the intake off for the recall as I hadn't had any indication that there was a problem. However with the intake in place they could have easily attempted to make an issue of it.

My two cents is to put the car back to stock no matter what the reason for the visit is. Remember that if something fails and a regional inspector has to come out you put your dealership in a position that they have to lie for you if they are ever asked did they ever see mods on your cars. Your dealer may be really "cool" with your mods right up until the point that they have to risk their business by having to lie to corporate. If you don't put them in that position, you never have to worry about it.

AoA would never know you have an intake unless your service rep reports that, on a side note an intake swap is about a 20 minute job at most.

When in doubt, take the mod out!

Absolutely, they could have said that the aftermarket part failed to filtrate properly, or some debris got in during installation, causing scoring in the cylinder, thusly warranty claim denied!!! I have heard stories like this before. They are already looking for every possibility to deny warranty claims, why give them more ammunition to shut us out. However if I were you I'll be asking major questions about engine failure @40k. Could you lemon law your car @40k? If not is,Audi extended your factor warranty till 100k the very least they could've done.
