A couple of weeks back I had smoke billow out from my dash. The unit that controls the A/C and heating (climatronics?) is blow and burnt. Anyone know how much a new one is? 1999.5 A4......

I knew it. Goddamn it.

did the smoke billow out of your dash or the vents? if it came out of the vents, you may have just fried your fan motor and possibly just the fuse for the climatronics.

Not the fan motor, it was still running. It was the dash behind the unit controlling the A/C. I know that some of you guys work for Audi, anyone have a clue how much the damned thing will cost? I want to replace it this weekend.

$1000!!!! ANOTHER #$@(*&#&$)#(&$#@ $1300 Bill? If that's true, this car is toast. I will set it on fire and get the insurance payment for it.

09-20-2005, 05:18 PM
get a used one, you can score something like that on ebay for less than $100. Or find someone parting a car, junkyards, etc. VWVortex, Audiworld, car-part.com....

If you pay $1000 to put one of those in your car I'll have to slap you

09-20-2005, 05:26 PM
Yeah, call some auto salvage places.

09-20-2005, 08:28 PM
marc, i've said it before so you know what you should do. Do it. Do it.

09-20-2005, 09:56 PM

09-20-2005, 10:01 PM
thats alot of money for a part. Thats like a timing belt going out. Its not even worth replacing because you can just put a down payment on a new ride.

I say buy a twin turbo corvette [drive]

It's done. $987 to fix it. I've had it. It's perfect now but on Saturday I'm taking it to Honda and buying an S2000. No more used cars for me.

Didn't buy the Honda. Grew a brain and paid the bill. $1034. Plus another $85 to put in the exhaust. I'll post pics tomorrow. Sounds great but nothing better brake for a while...

09-26-2005, 03:10 PM
Good to hear, I'm currently in the "Wanna sell my Audi for something reliable" boat.

09-27-2005, 04:44 AM
Don't know why you never bought a second hand unit and just pop out the old and pop in the used unit would have taken all of 20min top and only cost no more than $200.

09-27-2005, 10:27 AM
Couldn't find one. Here was the problem:

09-27-2005, 10:36 AM
that must have smelled fantastic!

OH well. At least you got it fixed, wont have to worry about it for a lil bit.

09-27-2005, 10:41 AM
No, just everything that can possibly go wrong. There was a lot of smoke and the smell....fantastic.
