Im taking my S4 up to NY from FL and Im wondering what the furthest any of you have done in one stint? Did you run into any issues? Anything I should prep before doing this?

I've replaced the plugs at 55k and literally just completed an oil change along with filling all of the tires to the same psi. Ill be bringing along some coolant and extra oil as well as a tool kit for an emergency oil change.

I've done this drive in a 2.0t passat but for obvious reasons I really just want to have all of my bases covered before setting off. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I guess its worth mentioning that the car is APR 2+ with the 034 tranny mount installed.

I hate that drive. But I would say protect the front.

Charlotte to Miami and back. Great drive. Only issue is an LED in my taillights went out when I got back, but I run my parking and fogs full time when I drive.

That would drive me insane, I dread the day one goes out in the tail lights or even the DRLs. Is there anyway to simply replace the one that went out or is it a full headlight ordeal?

drove from CT to Utah when i moved here last year. 2700 miles one way over 3 days. no problems at all, was a blast!

disclaimer - i did bring a quart of oil, a gallon of coolant, and other small tools just incase. in parts of nebraska and wyoming i was hundreds of miles from civilization on I-80. better to be safe than sorry.

I dont think leds or tail leds are something that should be going out. It was probably a rare occurance, my last cars LED tails lasted the whole 10 years

Took her for a trip from Denver - Las Vegas - LA - Albuquerque and back to Denver. No issues. Although I took her back in for the 5000 mile service literally a month after owning the car :D

LEDs are very long lasting but you can always get a defect so you never know. No way to replace just one unless you want to crack open the light and are REALLY good with a soldering iron LOL. If one dies you either have to live with it (nice thing about LEDs is there are many of them in one light, so loosing one is not a huge issue) or replace the whole assembly.

Long trips are fun, the S4 is made for them, enjoy it.

Much appreciated, and very much looking forward to it.

Having one LED go out would drive me crazy though haha, whenever I see another audi driving with one out I get anxious about mine [:/]

From Sarnia Ontario (90 min NE of Detroit) to Cape Coral Fla over 2 days in late January..kind of a long haul solo, but no issues what so ever…picked up about 65/70 degrees F, very worthwhile..

I've done Orlando, FL to New Orleans. *with 5 grown adults in the car (terrible choice)

And St. Pete, FL to Blacksburg, VA. *alone and moving

a few hours shy of the trip you are taking. It is a very comfortable if you're driving/in the passenger seat. couldn't ask for a better experience. I did painters tape the front end, both times.

My a4 had, literally, ~50 separate rock chips from my 2 hour weekly drive.

I drove from milwaukee to San Francisco right after thanksgiving. I went through Denver then some national parks(Capitol reef was great) then stopped in Vegas to get stage 1 APR. I had a great time but my car was full of my belongings so I felt a little cramped towards the end of each day.

Houston to Norman OK to Taos NM. Ski trip on spring break, picked my son up in Norman, we got to share the mountain driving experience, including driving to the ski valley everyday, lots of ass hauling and no tickets.

biggest fear is getting a flat tire... bring what you need to change a wheel out just in case. I've done the NY to FL trip and back countless times throughout my life. Its not a bad drive. Just becareful in Virginia. Cops are ruthless.

Flat fears, in my BMW I removed the Runflats and regularly made road trips in the car, some to CO a 1400 trip each way.

I did the same drive (starting in NJ ) 2 weeks after taking delivery. I've been cross country in my B6 A4, and my wife's MK7 GTI, the B8 S4 is by far thee most comfortable car I've ever been in. The thigh extenders make such a big difference. I love to travel and get pissed off when I'm in a rental and I find a canyon road to carve. So I almost always drive. Stopped at Monticello ( out of the way ) on my way down and found a R8 and a bunch of other german cars in the parking lot. Great driving roads in the area, but a lot of cops too... Got my first ticket in the s4..

Can't comment on the reliability of the car above 3000 miles but the worst part is all the chips in the paint and glass....

Longest with my S4 was CT to VT (4 hours.) Definitely make sure all your headlights are working and won't go out. I would also protect the front (bumper, hood, etc) and try not to have a roof rack on because it adds a lot of cabin noise

+1 . Be real careful in VA. I went from College Station TX to White Plains NY and then back NY to Miami to Tx. Got a ticket in VA. As much fun the s4 is, drive the speed limit if you aren't loaded with countermeasures.

Chicago to Atlanta to charleston SC back to Chicago last month. No complaints, did need to add a quart of oil when I got back. The fam was comfy and the only issue was when my cheap iPad charger died.

Flight out of Bozeman MT tonight was cancelled due to snow and I would love to take her cross country right now. Umm with the PA4s that is...

Just 8 hours from MSP to ORD.
I'll prob do an MSP to YYZ run this year in it. Only PITA is that there's no 93 in Toronto so may run some booster when I get there... That's about a 15 hour drive (split into 2 days)...

San Antonio, Texas to Philadelphia, PA round trip. Car was a joy to drive, I actually slept in it as well wasn't too bad.

I have done tons of cross country trips though, I did find that putting a pillow in between me and the door added some comfort but it wasn't necessary. Just make sure your coolant, oil, and windshield washer fluid are topped off. The correct oil and coolant is hard to come by on the road and its spring so all the bugs are flying around.

Also inflate your tires and update the stored data in MMI, make sure your spare is inflated blah blah blah.

Ill be driving to Quattro Day Mayo in two weeks for the second time. We do about 3,000 miles total in 4 days including driving fron NJ to GA and back. My car had 90,000 miles. I make sure my brakes are good, fresh oil and new tires. New tires because we rip mountain roads everyday pretty aggressively.

TrollinM3's, if it makes you feel better about the journey I did the same thing in December of 2013 with by B5 S4 Avant. I realize this isn't the same chassis/motor, but it is an older platform with a WAY less reliable motor, so I figured I'd share my experience. I took the car from CT all the way to Key Largo in a total time of around 18ish hours. I then made the drive back about 4 days later in similar pacing. The car was flawless the entire time.

Make sure you fluids are topped off, tyres are good, oil has been changed, and hit the road. Personally, I wouldn't worry about a single thing if I were you. It'll be a great drive in your B8 [up]

Not possible as I'll be up there for a few months.

As far as painters tape goes, is there anything to worry about when using it on the front of the car? ex. Does the adhesive corrode the clear coat or anything?

One day, I am gonna take mine for a drive from Seattle down the PCH until I run out of days that I can be gone from work / family...so probably about a week of work (5 week days plus the weekend days book-ending them means 9 days).

Car already has a really good clear bra and other wise I will just make sure fluids are at correct levels before taking off. Probably will just bring a spray bottle of Optimum No-Rinse, some micro-fiber towels and my car emergency bag of 1st Aid Kit, tire sealer, jumper cables and jacket.

Ft. Lauderdale to Baltimore. Flew down and drove it back. 1000+ miles. Zero issues. I considered taping the front end with painter's tape to protect it, but did not.

It does happen.. 2 of LED's died in my left tail light assy. AoA was nice enough replace it at 55k mi although dealer was not. And I saw another B8 in my neighborhood with LED failure up his back end. He had at least 4-5 LEDs dead.

I have 4 failed, haven't taken it up with anyone though I have 67K on the clock. I also have a failed trunk release handle but have a backup camera so that's another $350 and my Nav crapped out on me which could be a bad antenna which is another $350+. But none of those really impact my day to day, so I haven't really done anything about it. /threadjack
