By chance, my and my woman's garage has acquired a 2014 P+ Allroad with navigation. My car is a 2011 S4 with 3G MMI. Her car has the latest version with wifi and google maps, etc.

She could care less about these features and as long as her music can stream and she can make calls, she's okay with swapping units between her car and mine.

I'm honestly only willing to tackle this if the process isn't horribly cumbersome so I'm hoping I can pick the brains of those that know what this switch would entail.

For starters, I would need a shifter panel surround with the 3G MMI buttons and a start button for her car, then a new panel without start button and new style buttons for mine. I'm not sure whether I would really need any more parts.

Then in theory I would only need to swap units and call it good?

Is it really that easy?

Thanks for any input to those that can help out.

Problem is the 3G MMI will not stream music.

if you have vagcom it would help tremendously from a coding standpoint (required for such retrofits)
and also if you do a full scan you can check part and software numbers that go with the coinciding module

to add to that , some cars when they pickup newer equipment nav's like the case of the mk5 gti, upgrading to a mk6 navi unit, the can-gateway had to be upgraded/replaced to a newer module otherwise it wouldn't kill the electronics on the car and cause the batter to drain because the navi didn't know it was supposed to shut off on it's own (old module didn't send such commands) so the navi idled after shutting the car off

good luck on the swap though, just make sure you get a copy of the long coding from stock form as that will help tremendously

i'm not sure if audienthusiast.com is still up but he documented a mmi 2g to mmi 3g upgrade , so logically if you went from mmi3g to mmi 3g+ as well it should be the same steps
