I got my a4 over a year ago and i love it but i got that itch for the s4. dont know why i didnt consider it when i was looking at the a4.

is worth getting a new s4 or taking my time and finding a cpo s4. still on the fence on if i should keep the a4 for a little longer as well

any insight would be great esp from those who went from a4 to s4 quickly after purchase

Depends on your needs and how much you want to spend really.
I bought a '13 used in 2014. Had low mileage, AudiCare, and everything I wanted for a substantially discounted price. It was not CPO, just off the lot.
Took me a bit of time to find the one I wanted but it saved me a ton and it's a fantastic car. If you are not in a rush, it's a good way to go as long as you do your homework.
Just my $.02.

It took me 11 years, but I recently upgraded from an A4 to an S4.

Wait for the end of month/quarter/year and/or holiday deals, and you can easily get a brand-new S4 for the price of a CPO. New England has the second-largest concentration of Audi dealers in the US, so the four-hour drive up from LI could save you a ton of money.

That's kind of a blanket statement. I got a CPO with pretty much every option other than nappa seats and 40k miles for $38,500.
I was looking at $52,000 out the door for a new 2015 with fewer options from a dealer where a family friend works as the sales manager.

So it depends on what year/mileage you are willing to fall down to on your CPO. For me, the performance/warranty/condition and enjoyability of the cars was similar, so I chose the option that would have had the lesser depreciation cost for my use.
My math comparing them was something like this:
The CPO 2012 if I drive another 50k = I'll probably get ~$18,000-20,000 for.
The new 2015 if I drive to 50k = I'll probably get ~28,000-30,000 for.
$38,500 - 18,000-20,000 = ~$18-20,000 for 50,000 miles.
$52,000 - 28,000-30,000 = ~$22-24,000 for 50,000 miles.

I probably would have gone with a new car if I couldn't find a CPO with the options I wanted and a dealer had a new car with those options.

S4 driving experience is entirely different. I could never own an A4 after driving one; I suggest you do it.

I'd go pre-owned. It makes little sense to buy brand new at the end of the six year model cycle. '13 CPOs can be had for very good prices and the S4 is bulletproof.

Make sure you get P+ with MMI and Sports Diff at a minimum.

Well how long have your had your A4 for. Was it new or used. I wouldn't do something to where you don't loose on your current car. Honestly your coming up on the time to buy S4's at good prices. The 16's will be out in July. May is when they stop making 15 S4's And from May - July if you want to order one it will be a 16 and you will have to wait. And dealers will start to gear up to fill their lots with new models and the new year models. End of May-end of June is one of the best times to buy a S4/ audi. My 14 s4 I got last june was marked down 5K on the internet from the get go. And I got another 4K off of it when I bought a lot model. It had everything I wanted on it and more but it had what I wanted.

If your not in a bind to do it. I would wait and see whats around in June and see if you can score yourself a really good deal.

Well I bought mine the CPO route and have had my share of issues with the car. Mind you everything has been covered so far without question so I can't really say that its been a regrettable experience. Here is what I paid:
2013 Audi s4
Sports Diff
MMI + Nav
Napa inserts
Advanced Keys
19" Wheels
Audi Care
Carbon inserts
Total paid 42,000 sticker price was 59800.00

Thanks for all the insight so far.

to answer some of the questions I bought it new 2014 has about 22k which is a lot and worries me about getting another car so soon.

I would like to try to stay around same payments if possible. I would def get the mmi and sports diff and would love the red/black seats. i would def keep this one as long as i could

It was a blanket statement in response to a very broad question [;)].

A lot of people in New England recently got brand-new well-equipped S4s for ~$50k. We probably got lucky since the winter was terrible up here (hurt sales of everything) so there were a ton of Audi dealers who needed to move product, and it was the month/quarter end. Granted, I did not call and ask for prices on CPOs, but similarly equipped low-mileage 2014/2015 CPOs were listed for around the same price.

Obviously someone will go with a CPO if they are looking for a car in the $40k range, but the fact that the OP specifically mentioned a new S4 led me to believe that he can afford $50k+.

You want to upgrade to the S4 AND keep your payments the same? Two options: CPO or add a few years to the financing on a new S4.

CPO because the savings will always be a nice consolation for the inevitable issues you encounter - be it minor rattles, or major mechanical issues. The build quality on these cars can be questionable at times, for the price. Perhaps it had to with the fact that the b8 was designed/produced during the economic downturn, when cost cutting was a primary concern. The b9 should be a major step up in terms of quality, so if buying new I would hold off and wait for that, although then there may be concerns over the usual first year model issues.

I have decent equity but not really sure what i would get for a trade-in. if i have to up my payments i would or pay a little out of pocket as well.

what i like about the cpo is the 10year/100k esp if i can find a newer/low milage.

Eh, there are highly regarded third-party warranties (just search this forums), so don't get too hung up on that aspect of a CPO.

You should probably figure out your budget first.

Don't want it to come out wrong but the money isn't the problem as long as its a good deal.

i just wonder to should i drive the a4 to 50k and then trade it in for the s4 would that give me a better bang for my buck on the trade in. i can try to time it for the end of the year to try to work my best deal for new

i havent seen is there a firmyear when they are coming out with the b9 i dont want to have the first year of that

I thought Audi's CPO is 2yr/50k after the factory 4yr/50k warranty expires.

Do research and wait for the right deal to come along.

I ended up purchasing a CPO with Audicare '11 s4 for 38k. 16,000 miles with a 59k sticker price.
Most of the time the car will sit at the dealer lot for a month or two until they start dropping prices on it. End of the month is where it's at.

No regrets.

Rattle on B&O front speaker, Broken volume knob, front bumper clear coat peel, rear bumper clear coat peel. All fixed except rear bumper, but audi already approved the respray and its going in next week. The mileage at the time of purchase was 28k, currently at 33k.

Thanks for the headsup. Not sure if i am ready for the move yet, esp since i would have to worry about selling my current. I may wait til year end and see what i can find for leftover 15s

if i could do it again i'd wait and get brand new... I was an an itch to get out of my '13 wrangler and back into something sporty and fun to drive (not to mention something that actually felt safe on the highway/heavy rain storms)... i went from a 335 to a wrangler unlimited lifted on 35s, etc... I couldn't financially get brand new because i was a bit negative not owning the jeep very long (owned it just over a year) and putting 0 down on it. I got a '12 CPO with 45k miles. Its been great, but some things irritate me. It makes some noises and just has that feeling of being used. Having 3 new vehicles previous kind of spoiled me, but i wanted out and couldn't wait any longer of owning the Jeep.

if you can swing a new model, i'd do it. But again, CPO isn't too bad because atleast you have the comfort of a warranty.

Thanks for the input. I know how you feel, i am so used to new cars that i feel like i shouldnt bother with use unless its under 5k miles. i'll keep my ear to the ground and email a few dealer and see what they say for their deals

I completely agree. I've bought new and CPO in the last 3 years and if you get a really clean CPO you can't tell the difference other than those first few weeks with the new one. You also don't have as much depreciation heading home after signing.

I was patient looking around for mine - for months. It was the sales managers car. He gets a new one every six months. It had 8500 miles on it. The 2014s weren't listed on KBB yet for used cars last August. I went to the Audi website and looked at the prices for every CPO 2014 S4 listed for sale in the US to try to gauge price and options versus the other cars for sale across the country.

I think I got a very good deal and have a better warrany versus buying new. Did I get lucky with my timing? Yes. I found it the day it went up for sale (Friday) and there weren't even pics of it up yet. Drove it Saturday and closed the deal Monday. If you are diligent looking you might luck into the same thing.

Good luck!
