How come nobody makes bigger inlet hoses for the RS5. Would be nice to have in silicone, maybe carbon fiber air box tops.

After installing the hose, I didn't notice a sound difference as I am running an AWE tack exhaust which drowns out any engine noise. Definitely noticed a harder pull in each gear near the top of the rev range. My P3cars gauge validated my thoughts showing consistent
.20 to .25 quicker 0-60 times.
Definitely a nice upgrade and highly recommended for the price.

Question:

The hose that runs along the top to it is attached to clips that are embedded in the OEM hose. After I install the new replacement Throttle Body Hose , there is no where to reattach the clips. So I just leave those hoses "hanging"?

The instructions on installation could be better on this. There are 2 hoses that you need to disconnect and reconnect. One is a small vacuum house on a barbed fitting that is held on with a clamp. You squeeze the 2 tabs on the clamp with pliers together and you can move the clamp.

The larger hose has a plastic shroud around it that holds it in place. I have no idea how to get it off. It makes you think that the hose fits AROUND the fitting, like it is female, but it is actually male and fits inside the fitting. The shroud however, fits around the fitting.

Of course I broke the plastic shroud.

The new throttle body hose has a metal fitting instead of plastic for this hose. I put the hose back into it and it "clicks" in place. However I am concerned as I don't have the plastic shroud that holds in in place anymore. Will I be OK? Does the clicking sound indicate that it locks in place and you don't need the shroud because its a metal fitting instead of plastic? If not, what can I do now to secure it?

as of today, no response to my post when I had a problem and no response when I contacted them on their website.

Also, the vacuum hose barb is not at the same angle as OEM. So the hose is a little more stretched than if you had it on OEM. Seems like they could have put it at the same angle as the OEM hose?

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you had difficulty removing the factory clip from the stock throttle body hose. The clip is a fairly standard design; you push in on the sides to release the clip from the fitting, then pull up.

The fittings you have in your picture are also shown in Step 8 of our Installation Instructions:

http://store.034motorsport.com/blogadmin/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/diy-install-instructions-high-flow-throttle-body-inlet-hose-cold-air-intake-b8-audi-s5-4-2l-fsi-v8-034-112-6016-4.jpg

I will add on to Step 4 of the instructions to explain in more detail how to remove the clip. Step 4 already did mention the need for hose clamp pliers for the smaller hose:

Step 4 – Unclip the PCV tube from the throttle body hose and remove the small vacuum hose from the 90 degree elbow in the throttle body boot using hose clamp pliers.

I am also sorry you did not yet receive a response from our Customer Service Team via our online contact form. I will look into that ASAP. As long as the locking portion of the clip is in place, the connection to the fitting should still work. [wrench]

The smaller hose is not really an issue to get off with needle nose pliers. However the clamp is a bit difficult to get back on. Not sure if your barb fitting is a little bigger than OEM. Had to use a slightly bigger clamp. The barb being at a different angle than the OEM may also contribute to this, but I am not sure

I know you picture the other fitting, but it is a rather complex fitting. T he picture shown really doesnt show the clamp that well. There is this square surround thing at the bottom. A top view would be better. I could not figure it out. If you could go into more detail as where to squeeze and how to squeeze, that would be helpful.

Installed mine this weekend.

Install:

That Smaller 90 degree barbed fitting for the smallest hose that attaches to the inlet hose was clamped on to the new air inlet hose at the wrong angle. Needed to be "twisted" about 90 degree toward the rear of the car to prevent the smaller hose from being stretched and stressed. Luckily I was able to twist the 90 degree fitting towards the rear without breaking it. Also agree that the barbed 90 degree fitting seems to be a tad larger that stock, making re-attaching the hose clamp a little challenging, but a little silicone lube helped to get everything back together.

The larger hose (approximately 1" in diameter?) that attaches with that complex/shrouded fitting was a PITA! I broke it. Basically, the hose fitting as a "shroud" that attaches on the outside of the female fitting on the air inlet hose at four clip points. Basically, the male fitting on the hose goes into the female fitting, and then the complex/shroud slides over the outside of the female fitting to lock everything in place. Trying to pull all four clip points away from the female while trying to pull the male out of the female at the same time was difficult with the tools I possessed. You are basically pulling/prying in 5 different directions at once. I'm sure it is possible with the right tool, whatever that is. And I did try pressing on the sides of the clip and pulling out, but this only seemed to force the "clips" further into seating the connection instead of relieving the "attaching" pressure.
Luckily, I only snapped off one of the four clip points, and it appears to be holding well using just three clip points from the broken complex shroud. Thought about just replacing that hose, but Audi wants more for it than the new air inlet hose costs, so I'll just live with knowing I have one broken air hose clip.

Sound: Can't really hear any difference. I have a Borla full cat back exhaust and an OEM paper air filter, and the exhaust is not that loud (think "touring"), and still no difference in intake noise.

Seat of the pants: Car "feels" like it revs quicker, especially in the upper rev band. Can't be sure, but this feels like the car is faster and revs quicker. I'd say 8 to 10 hp increase may not be out of the question, which is really good considering the cost.

Then again, I did clean the carbon off the inside of the throttle body and blade while I was in there, which couldn't have hurt.

Would I buy again and recommend, yes! I believe the performance difference is noticeable, although very slightly.

But I would like to know how to get that shrouded/complex fitting hose off without breaking it. Several folks on the Facebook A5/S5 page had to break theirs off as well, so it's not just me.

You squeeze on the two tabs (one tab shown below, since the customer car we used for instructions had another intake piece on it that was installed by the owner) to release the clip. Pushing down on the connection at the same time helps ensure that the clips unseat. You then pull up on the connection to remove the hose. [wrench]

No special tools are needed; the connection is designed to be able to remove by hand. I've made an illustration below to help better explain the process, so I hope it helps! If we get another car in with the stock intake hose on it, I will try to take a video of it. We just don't get too many V8 S5s in the shop here lately. [:(]

Is it OK to twist the small barbed elbow as the poster above did? It really should be facing the same way as the OEM. Don't want to break anything by twisting it now that it's all in place, but if it won't hurt anything, it's an easy fix

Wish I was in N Cal instead of S Cal. I would bring my car by. Would you guys replace that hose? I broke that clip and they said the whole hose needs to be replaced and you have to take apart the manifold to get that hose on. You can't just order another clip. Is this true?

I also hope you answer my question about twisting that barbed elbow towards the rear of the car so there is less tension on that hose. Will it damage anything or break any seals?

As far as I know, the clip cannot be ordered separately. It still functions fine, even if it's broken in half, but it gets a bit harder to remove by hand once it cracks. [:|]

The 90 degree plastic fitting can be rotated as needed if you want to relive any stress on the hose connected to it. [up]

That clip is horrible! Ended up breaking mine. Not a big deal tho, can't see it once engine cover is on. I also reinforced it with a black tie strap even tho it seemed pretty solid half broken.
*All I can say is when you're trying to undo your clip, make sure the air valve is closed, and everything else is closed/sealed. If you do end up breaking your clip, plastic bits will fly around and disappear in your engine bay, like it did with me. Make sure if that happens it wont cause a problem!*

I don't feel comfortable with a broken clip on mine. It could come off. I went to a mechanic and they said the only way to replace the clip is to replace the whole hose which is around $100 bucks and you have to open the engine manifold (big job).

Can anyone verify this?

IMHO, you must replace the whole hose and you cannot just replace that clip end/connection. Not sure about removing the manifold, but I could not reach the other end of the hose myself.

But, I think mine holds fine with 3/4 of the clip still remaining. Pulling on it was pretty secure, I don't think it is coming off.

If I do replace it, it will be at a carbon clean.

So I just installed mine. Had to break the clip. I don't see how it's possible to remove that piece without breaking it. Really no big deal though. Two zip ties wrapped around the broken clip made it even more secure than before. It also took quite a bit of patience and effort to reconnect the smaller hose to the fitting on the new pipe.

I got the job done in about 40 minutes from the time I opened the hood to the time I closed it. About 25 minutes were spent trying to not break the clip, and 10 minutes were spent trying to fit the smaller hose to the fitting on the pipe.

HUGE improvement in throttle response and mid to high range torque. Didn't have a ton of time to play, but this tube feels like a serious upgrade. I have non resonated downpipes on a stock exhaust and noticed a very minimal increase in sound.

Some aftermarket intakes replace the filter or airbox, but we've found that the factory throttle body hose is the biggest restriction. The airbox itself flows quite well. [up]

So here goes my review: nothing was really an issue for uninstalling the stock, was out in less than 2 minutes. Installing the 034 was simplified by lubing up the tight fitting parts with the excepting of that damn small hose, tighter than a virgin smh, but I used force without breaking anything, no pun intended. Post installation, didn't notice anything on revving, so I did what I did when I installed the pipercross filter, just reset the ecu, and re-learn everything. Test drove, definitely a smoother louder sound, can feel it when you touch the pedal, I feel like my air flow is even. BTW I have milltek non res downpipes, xpipe and meisterschaft exhaust. Pretty loud as is, but now smoother thru all power bands. Besides that, you can simply see the difference in sizes and how the stock has ripples plus the choke down on entry, don't mind my hands, I'm not a normal sized human

Well actual work took about 15 minutes, I took a break in between because it reached about 95 degrees in my garage lol. And motor was still hot AF. Lol. My grill is OEM rs5 grill from LLtek quite costly but I originally had the replica until the animal I hit broke it, so I upgraded thru insurance OEM, and upgraded brackets you see under it. Much more sturdy than stock. I want the rs5 bumper from LLtek, next mod perhaps.

Any update on RS5 inlets hoses or air box? ECS says they have plans to release something. Be nice to have for the summer.

In case anyone is interested, it does fit on a 4.2 V8 with APR supercharger. Installed it this morning. It's tight, and it's not easy, but it does fit.

Thanks for the photo! The APR SC does move the TB around a bit, so it's definitely a tighter fit without the compliance of the stock accordion hose. Glad to hear you were able to make it fit! [wrench]

I just noticed that in your pic, half the shroud we are fighting with is already broken off. Your bottom red arrow is pointing to where the other half of the shroud is supposed to be.

That thing is a PITA!

I installed this hose a few weeks ago when I was putting my engine back together. It's really a phenomenal design.

One problem I have is the factory engine cover(FSI V8) does not fit well. It kind of bumps on the air intake hose and rests on it. I have an 08 and I know audi re-designed covers for 2009+

Does the factory engine cover need to be trimmed?

I don't believe the engine cover required any modification on the installations we've done here. That being said, I'd try rotating the hose with both clamps loosened to see if you can get more clearance. Feel free to PM or email me installed pictures so that we can take a look.

just reset the ecu, and re-learn everything.

How do you do this, and how does doing this affect the noise?

After I installed this, the car's intake sounded more like a supercharger whine than it did previously, so not sure if I have an air leak, or it's meant to sound like this..

Hey @034MotorSport, is there a specific air filter you recommend in conjunction with the silicon intake tube? I see you stated the biggest restriction was really the air box, but, I was wondering if you found any particular air filter/brand to work particularly well.

Hi Sazexa,

Our P34 intake comes with this drop in filter (https://store.034motorsport.com/performance-drop-in-air-filter-8v-audi-a3-s3-mkvii-golf-gti-r-mqb.html) to use. This is the one we recommend.

034MOTORSPORT ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP WITH DECAR AUTO SPORTIV IN CANADA

Press Release

August 29, 2017

Oakville, Ontario

034Motorsport’s global expansion continues with a new official partnership announced today with DeCar Auto Sportiv, based in Oakville, Ontario. They are now the official importer and distributor for 034Motorsport go-fast-parts in Canada, and will give unprecedented access of 034Motorsport product to existing dealers, new dealers and consumers in Canada.

“Canada is one of our biggest international markets for us, being so close to the USA. That said, its close proximity doesn't mean the market is identical. The car season is shorter due to the frozen nature of the country at least one-third of the year, and fluctuating currency strength has adversely affected consumer confidence in making purchases from US-based retailers and manufacturers. We've needed a partner to help us grow in this market, stabilize pricing, and better serve both dealers and retail consumers with inventory north of the border and an import process that doesn't adversely impact the cost of goods," states Troy Sicotte, 034Motorsport's Global Director of Sales. "We found what we we're looking for with DeCar Auto Sportiv and are excited to see what they can do with our brand up north.”

Frank Derks, DeCar Auto Sportiv owner and founder, states, “My business and 034Motorsport share the same philosophy in that we would only sell or manufacture products that we would place on our own vehicles while putting the customer first. 034Motorsport has been a strong vendor for us over the past few years, and now we’ll take it to the next level to make it even stronger. Simply put, we’re proud to represent 034Motorsport in Canada.”

Dealers can set up an account with DeCar Auto Sportiv by contacting Frank directly:

I had this inlet hose installed on my car and it was a nice little upgrade. Don’t expect any crazy gains but I did notice better throttle response and a smoother pull from 5-7000 rpm. Paired it with a dry filter from AFE and it sounds just right my muffler delete.

I dealt with Chris Murphy and he helped me get the part expedited to AU Tuning in Huntington Beach, CA for the install. Awesome product 034!

Hey 034, would you guys ever consider making a smoother flowing section for the air-box that is prior to the box itself? Something from the start of the intake, under the grill/radiator cover panel, to the air box?
