I know my stronic will never reach it, but curious , the tach markings are not all that clear as to actual redline

It will be different depending whether have a DSG or a MT. MT redline will be 7200 rpms. DSG will be 6500 rpms without a tune. With the DGS you will not be able to get the car to rev over 6500 rpms no matter what(computer controlled). With a 6MT, there is a rev limiter that will cut off fuel above just above 7200 rpms. I believe that early model DSG cars did have a 6800 rpm redline.

yup spot on. And yes with the 8.5 DSG they rolled back the redline number due to the change with the trans. But the tune changes it back and gets you the lost power But you can redline a MT at any rpm you want if you miss shift lol.

They rolled back the B8.5 6MT as well. @ 6500 it pulls the throttle.

Yep, I was pretty disappointed to see the redline lowered in my B8.5 versus my previous S4. Of well, that's what tunes are for I suppose.
I wonder why Audi lowered the redline on the B8.5 6MT though. Isn't it mechanically identical to the B8 6MT?

What is weird is the markings on the tachometer do not correspond to actual redline.

Thats normal with all cars. Where have you been. Haven't you seen the speedo on the B8 S4's there the same way. The max the car will go is 155 without a tune. I guess its for looks and not functionality.
i think they rolled it back for fuel economy. Atleast with the b8.5 DSG it gets 28mpg

My fuel cutoff is hitting at 6800.

Lame. Time for a tune!

In stock tune this engine makes peak HP at 5500 rpm and stays flat after that while torque starts declining at 5300 rpm, so there is not much of a point to rev past that. There's no more power to be had.

Torque and HP are half of what you need in order to figure out if higher revs will be beneficial. You also need to account for the torque multiplication of the transmission ratios...
For the 6MT -- revving past 6500 will help acceleration until the 5-6 shift and over 140 mph.

In my 2013 before the tune I could get about 6800rpm in 1st gear, and 7200rpm in the other gears. After the tune all gears red line at 7200rpm. I have a manual.

What is your build date? I wish my '13 6MT would go to 7200.
I get to about 6800 in first, 2nd I get about 6700 (see below), and maybe 6600 in 3rd. The below plot is what I'm basing my comment that the throttle is pulled at 6500 - it's a soft limit, so the RPM still goes a little higher than the "limit". I had my foot on the floor until 62 sec - the ECU is what pulled the throttle, starting almost exactly at 6500 RPM.
This was with the stability controll/etc fully on - I've not tried it with it disabled. Does that make a difference?

When I'm driving and I put the car in neutral (DSG) it revs to 7000. The tac clearly shows it and sometimes when you downshift and you're at above 5k and you pin it you can "confuse" the computer into revving above 6500. I also noticed in the cold when I was in Vermont skiing that when I was going through 2-3 it went to 7000.

My 2010, 2011 and 2014 all went to 7200 rpms . Slightly above that, the rev limiter kicked in.
