View Full Version : Flashing Back to Stock and Aftermarket Pulley

Are there any risks with driving on the stock map while having an aftermarket supercharger pulley installed? I am not talking long term, but lets say up to 100-200 miles worth of driving.
I have to take my car in for a recall on the air bags and my service manager warned me that they would need to scan the ecu this time. I am not that worried about TD1 but I am just curious if I decide to go this route.
No problem, your ECU will bleed off any extra boost.. you won't notice anything except maybe a little more power.

I wish any of these companies offered a no dealer option for their tunes. I miss my Cobb access port.

I'm getting rid of my WRX this Saturday for an S4 and miss my V3 accessport already and it's not even gone yet. Going to let it go with the car with my custom tune on it. I wish I could get one for the S4.

I really don't think you will miss it for long once you sit in your new S4 [drive]

You are probably right but the tuning aspect was so much easier. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. This week has been going by so slow.
I came from a BMW 135 running COBB, and it was nice to be able to uninstall for dealer maintenance or change maps at home.
In the Audi, I just did a 3000 mile road trip for skiing, it was really sweet to change maps with APR in a gas station while filling when the octane fuel wasn't there, and then when the fuel got good again, BOOYAH, my car woke up again.

No, the vag com mods must be stored in a different location. Unless the dealership reflashes that modulte it doesnt get wiped during normal performance tunes and flashes back to stock.

I totally agree as well. I had been into audis for the past 12 years. Now my track car is a Honda and the tuning is incredible.
I have a home tuner and there are several tuners on the internet who will remotely tune your car for every single mod you want to do to it. You want to run a different intake, this tuner will tune to the resonance pulses of each intake. You want to add headers...you get a new tune. You want to try meth... no problem, new tune. Want to try a different injector, a different cam, want to port the head? No worries. And the tuners are responsive as heck. I have gotten new tunes in 24 hours each time datalogging is done. Oh, and it's dirt cheap too.
It's amazing how with Audis we have been programmed by our tuners to accept, "You dont need an addition tune if you add an exhaust, ours will work the same with that. Your ECU will adjust." etc etc. You can optimize a tune for each of these mods but our Audi tuners know that is a money loser so we get our canned tunes and fork over our 1200 bucks.

EPL already has the flash at home for the B8. The B8.5 is due out in a couple weeks. Have the b8 stage 2 tune. Car feels fucking unreal!! And flashing back and forth is a breeze. Takes about 5 minutes. [emoji106][emoji106]

EPL will also work with you on customized flashes. From what they told me, the price of the tune comes with two customized adjustments if you are willing to log.

I will definitely keep an eye on that for the B8.5. IMO this represents a step in the right direction. I just hope they can be responsive to people as this will require a lot of customer service time on their behalf. Great to see.

I'm guessing that I may be in the wrong here as I've never heard of it being addressed on the forum but both my tuner and an APR engineer stated that those with an aftermarket pulley with no tune and a 6 speed manual are more likely to enter areas of high Boost. I was told that in an over boost situation the ecu will send the car into limp mode making it obvious that something is not normal within the car. This would only happen if a tech was driving the car, say for diagnostic or whatever purposes, but it is a risk those with a 6 speed face.

I can confirm this. I had the Vag-Com mods prior to getting an APR tune and they all stayed active after the flash.
