I blew one of my 18 inch tires, and I have the stock spare in the trunk.... I had to drive home with it from the shop (about 15 miles) because they couldnt repair my tire, nor did they have any in stock (Weds is the earliest) Am I going to screw up my AWD system from just driving it home 15 miles and parking it until weds?? This is my only set of rims and tires... please let me know! Thanks a ton

I thought running 3 18 inch rims and one spare (15 inch or whatever it is) will f*ck up your AWD system?

i wouldn't do over 100 miles, i think it says not to do over 60 on the spare though.

Yeah just don't go real fast and drive as little as possible. 15 more miles to get home won't hurt? Do you have stock whees? That should be the same diameter if you need to drive it more. Or put all the stock wheels back on if you really want to be safe.

Nos tock wheels.... If i buy another tires (same size) but made by someone else, would that be okay on the 18 inch rim??? The guy at townfair tires said i can only get the SAME exact tire thats on there, which seems to be stupid to me.

As long as its balanced and around the same weight, you should have no issues.

I would keep the same type tire on the same axel unless you are in a real bind.

[:)] It has to do with a bunch of things. Weight, width, compound, traction, heat rating vary among tires even the same size. Also having a gripier tire on one side of the diff and a less traction on the other side isn't good. Could cause some crazy things when pushing the car. But if you just use the car to get grocery's I wouldn't worry about it.

asshat :-P

no but seriously why cant you mix and match brands?

different tires is just ghetto, but size and weight is most important. But different tires will weigh less. Since the B5s are getting old, i can see why one would want to cut corners.

Why can you not go over 100 miles on a spare? Don't all the A4's have a full size spare?? Mine matches the factory wheels I have.

My car had 16's stock, and the spare may be a 16, but its like 1/2 the size girth wise... they dont come with FULL size spares.

Yeah, that warning is a bit funny. Its for the lawyers, ya know.

I have a buddy here in Detroit that works for a tire company (I think it was Michelin) who did one lap of America on a car with 4 of those little spares just to prove it could have been done. Sounds like a hoot!

(I doubt they did well on the track sessions though!)
