View Full Version : Are there any numbers on how a Stage 2 tune affects your 30-100 highway performance?

Saw an M4 on the highway and thought we might engage in a little spirited driving, but his car was in a whole different league than mine. Would a stage 2 get a B8.5 in the realm of an M4 30-100 performance? He would put his foot on the pedal and and be gone, and even in S mode it was laughable how unresponsive my car felt compared to his.
If there's nothing that gets an 8.5 close to a (stock?) M4, I can accept that too I guess. His car cost $20k more than mine.

With a base price of 62K MSRP and standard equipment like Nav, Heated Seats and features like Active Diff and Carbon Fiber Roof, it really isn't far off at all in price compared to a well equipped S4.
In relation to it's competition in the market at that price, I'd call it a bargain.

If you can find an M4 under 75 near you, good luck. The cheapest one I found in Denver was 72k with NO options. I have literally every option on mine except for adaptive steering (including pearl paint and wood inlays), and I paid $51k.

The car is popular right now - you probably didn't shop hard enough and are relying on the on-hand vehicles. Dealers will add at minimum the 4K exec package on their lot cars.
Check M3Post's ordering section. You can get even deeper discounts if you do European Delivery. I've done some basic shopping around and I could order a new M3 with basic options around 65K. Getting an M4 will command already a $2400 premium over an M3.

Stage 2 will be closer but still not as fast. M4's put down 420whp stock.
Stage 2 gets us close to 380-390whp if i'm not mistaken.
The M4 is a faster more expensive car. I'd have one if they made them in AWD. But they don't. it is what it is.

Ok I haven't raced an M4 but I can tell you that my 2014 S5 with GIAC stage 2 and AWE exhaust is an absolute beast! I honestly feel that I would be neck and neck with an M4. That being said I have never drove nor raced one, BUT I'm telling you, this 3.0T was so under powered at stock it made me sick, only after letting this motor out of its cage can one truly appreciate the staggering performance from this motor. Guys if you haven't done it yet your missing out on some serious fun! Couple the stage 2 with a Roc-Euro intake and the sound from the cab is so f***%# crazy!
I also did the DSG tune to help the transmission keep up with the extra power, shifts are crisp and it now holds gears without that annoying down shift.

Internet racing is fun. I'll bite.
I'm sure it has been reposted a bunch but you all remember this? B8 S4 had no problem keeping up with the 450hp RS4 on a stage 1 tune..

I'm guessing you get a nice cool day and you could give that M4 a run for its money.

Stage 2 will get you very close in real-world performance. M4 will still be a little quicker.

Stock M3/4 has trapped over 119 mph! You'll need to get there to play with them. Stage 2 with all the goodies, 100 octane, etc will get you close. But at that point, just get an M3. Or only race from a stoplight. Ever. And up to 50 mph.

Well you have to consider the M4 has about 90 ft/lb more torque than the RS4 and also weighs over 800lbs less. Our S4 is not going to beat an M4, even with a stage 2 tune. Different classes.

an M4 will walk a stage 2 S4 at higher speeds (60miles+). Quarter mile trap speed differences are way too high (around 4-5 miles) and that's with the m4 having RWD.

I don't know know the answer to your question but I put down 419.9 awhp on just pulley and tune on 93 map.

How well does the M4 hook up from take off? I'm always nervous with rear wheel drives being tire eaters.

depends on the driver.. when my Z was stock 230whp i would lose the rear end and spin like crazy .. fast forward 4 years i had 550 whp and i could launch that thing like a bat out of head... rear squatted minimum tire spin.. granted the 550whp z had full suspension mods but the biggest mod was me learning how to drive the car.. your average M4 owner who just bought it just for the class and name probably won't be able to launch it.. but look out if you find a real driver

I'm so used to Quattro I can't imagine braking loose with a DCT like the M4 has. Just seems odd... I'm not doubting it by any means, just seems odd. Quattro is like having training wheels.
One car that I would love to own is the C63 507. That car sounds amazing! I think the styling is week though.
