I read in some PDF that someone wrote up to pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine to relieve the pressure. But I watched a YouTube video that just relieved it from the valve on the fuel pump. Is the latter acceptable? I'm a little wary turning on the car without a critical component not plugged in.

You can do it but it is more messy and if you don't pull the fuse then do not open the door with the line or prv undone or it will go everywhere.

Aren't we supposed to disconnect the wiring harness anyways?

To the hpfp, that doesn't disconnect the lpfp and it will prime when you open the driver side door.

I just disconnect the negative terminal of my battery and unscrew the schrader valve slowly. Have a rag handy, don't worry you won't slice your hand open with fuel spray.
FYI, every time you disconnect your battery you'll get a fault code for G85 steering angle sensor voltage supply and your traction control light will turn on until you drive in forward.

I purge valve mine. just lay a rag down because there's a lot of fuel there that will come out.
I suggest maybe wearing eye protection too. The fuel can come out quite quick

The schrader valve is the way to do it. If you have a dental tool with a 90 degree end, you can get in and pop the valve without removing it. Have a rag underneath, it'll help. Or, leave the car overnight and let the pressure bleed off that way.

I just did this a few days ago. I disconnected the fuse and the harness at the fuel pump and attempted to start the car. It wouldn't start due to no fuel being supplied. When I took everything else off there was almost no gas coming out of anywhere to worry about. It's harmless to crank the engine.
