View Full Version : GPS processing speed - slow!

Hello All, need some help!
I'm a happy three months owner of 2015 S4 - absolutely love the car! The only small cloud is GPS processing speed - even in the city at less than 30 mph. My previous car was 3rd generation ACURA and, I have to say, S4's GPS is way behind where ACURA was over 10 years ago. On several occasions I missed the turn because according to the screen I still had couple hunderd yards to go when in reality I was right there. When car position catches up, it's too late! I'm wondering if there any way to improve processing speed somehow. For example, if I disable most (if not all) non-essential information (e.g.: showing things like gas stations, banks, restaurants etc.) - would that help? Anything else that can be done? I would greatly appreciate your help!

Yes and I notice my backup camera glitches like a 1980s webcam. I definitely don't rely on it.

I think the processor speed is slow on searches but once the destination is locked in I have never had the GPS give me turn directions after I passed the turn or miss a turn because the map showed me to be behind where I am. If anything I find the nav directions to tell me to turn before I need to know (e.g. "Turn right in 900 yards."). Try resetting the MMI but if the problem persists it might be worth a dealer visit to see if something is wrong.

+1 here.
Do you have a lot of poi info showing?

I'm not thrilled with the GPS either but don't have this problem on my 2014. It takes too long to initialize upon starting the car (about 60 seconds I'd guess) but once it's on it works well.

If you unlock the car as you're walking towards the MMI is initiated faster than if you use the smart key sensor to enter.

I have a 2014 and the car has 3G (more like 2G) and an iPhone 4 charger in the glove box. For 50k you think our cars would have upgraded shit.

We've gone over this in teh "one thing you hate about your S4" thread. But yeah the GPS/Nav system is garbage. Specifically considering that almost all of us have phones in our pockets that are 10 times better than the big box they put in the car to handle GPS/Nav. Hell, if I could just buy a 2nd iPhone and slap it into the dash, I would be happy.

If the B9 gets Apple's CarPlay, I might heavily consider trading up.

Well the GPS will work without having cellular data reception, so it's a bit better in that way.

Yeah, it's slow when you're telling it to crunch something but when it's navigating it's fine.

Also bigger than a phone, in a fixed location were it is easy to see, with integrated controls and doesn't crash or require OS updates nearly as often as a phone.

And so will your iPhone if you download the offline maps in the Google Maps mobile app.

I've never had this issue. If you come to a stop sign does it still show you as moving to the intersection?
