I know it seems kinda weird to put flowmasters on a German car but YouTube search b7 a4 flowmasters and they sound GOOD. there's a b8 a4 with 40 series flows and it sounds amazing. Any of you guys try this? What suggestions do you have as far as series?

Flowmasters have sounded good on some 4 bangers when people weren't trying to rice them out. They give a good throaty sound. Not sure on our b7 but a few of the ones that I have heard have sounded pretty good. I have no clue what seris they were running and it was a while back.
its just another muffler, its all chinese made anyway, Run whatever you think sounds best.

Please do, I really need to source some pipes to piece a custom one together.

Yea I would love to actually get a custom exhaust together but it seems like mandrel bends aren't an option from any of the shops near me
Biged243
03-13-2015, 11:07 PM
Me either. So I am going to have to buy the mandrel bends off a site somewhere and fab it myself or have an exhaust shop do it. This won't be till summer time at the earliest. I also need to run a 220 line to my garage for my welder.

Do you need a permit for that? So much red tape nowadays

I wish I had a damn garage.. Apartment living with a car you like to mod doesn't work

I suppose I should get a permit. Then again I already have the house and the inspector never looked to see if there was a sub panel in the garage or not. I do have power already in the garage, so I am not going to have to dig the trench to install the proper conduit pipe to run the wire. I'll just pull the 110 wire out with the 220 attached and run a sub panel in the garage. It's just upgrading. I am also friends with a master electrician that will over see, or help me do it.

Nice. It's good to know people but it sounds like you know what you need to do. Good luck man and I'll report back with my findings haha

I bought mandrel piping off eBay and took it to the shop for my custom exhaust.

Aren't all flowmasters made from aluminized steel? That's what would keep me from running them. They would rust off in 2-3 CT winters...

What exactly is a glass pack? Is it different then a regular muffler?

ive been looking into a few mufflers to run right now leaning towards billy boat and magnaflow, only time i ran a flowmaster was a 40 series on a blazer... im looking for a deep sound while keeping my fuel mileage or improving it.

Mufflers don't really affect back pressure enough to noticeably change gas mileage but they'll definetly give you that sound

WTF! when I first joined the forums I asked about flow masters and people flamed the shit out of me lolol. They told me something about this isn't Detroit with my shitty car..

A chambered muffler (like a Flowmaster 40 series) might affect more than you think on a turbo car.

straight from wiki
"A glasspack is a type of automobile muffler in which the exhaust gas passes straight through the center of the muffler. The basic design consists of one smaller tube centered inside of a larger outer tube that is enlarged or swollen in the middle. The gap between the swollen part of the larger outer tube and the smaller diameter center tube is packed full of fiberglass, hence the name"

i'd go with flowmaster if i can get that kind of sound out of my b7. i will probably go with a RAI or B&B test pipe also.

I ran their TP, and would do so again. I like the idea of the 4" to 3" funnel design they use for their TP.

So I did it. Only went with the even cheaper "thrush" muffler which is an exact replica of a flowmaster 40 series (they bought the patent). I also had then run a 2.5 inch cat back and then res delete to y pipe split to the mufflers.. Damn it sounds good.. Really throaty and mean. Also I noticed a big improvement in upper rpms. I'll be posting a video as soon as I get the time. Thanks for all the responses guys
