Can someone tell me why my motor is making the noise in the video?
My B7 is a 2.0t 6spd avant. It's at 106,951 miles and a rattling/ticking noise is coming from the motor but I'm not sure what it is. The following motor maintenance has been done.
Timing Belt (104,164 miles)
Air Filter (104,352 miles)
Spark Plugs (104,386 miles)
Thermostat (104,395)
Oil Change (104,405 miles)
Coolant Hose Flange (105,402 miles)
Diverter Valve Rev D (105,467 miles)
This video is from when I got home from work so the car is at operating temperature.

i think so i know this noise. I think is you need change your cam follower. Just make sure is the car have more vibration then before. If is yes, pretty sure is your can follower.

That's what I was afraid of. I've read that this is a constant issue with the early B7. Will Audi cover this past warranty or am I on my own?

Haha, I originally called Audi with my VIN when I bought the car and asked if there were any recalls and they said no recalls but there are updates and I asked if there was a charge and they said no. I just never got around to taking it in so When I scheduled the cam follower I told them to take care of the "updates" as well.

So if I call up and ask if there are updates they should be able to tell me. I asked when I got my car about recalls and they said they have already been done. :-/

They should be able to. I have an 06 and I bought it at the end of last year so I'm not sure when the update were issued or what really makes it an update and not a recall.

That would be your cam chain tensioner that has slowly worn out. It's not able to keep the tension on the cam chain like when it was new and the noise you're hearing is the slack in the chain. I just replaced my cam chain and tensioner (136k miles, sounds been there for a while though) due to the same sound yours is making. I can't believe how much quieter my engine is now and the car is also running much smoother now. Below is a good link as to what you're getting into. It's not a job for the faint of heart, but definitely doable for a man with some mechanical skill and the right tools.

Thank you for that link buddy! I was looking for it and couldnt find it for squat! I have to do this job, probably going to tackle it over my spring break. This will help. Buying a Bentley later this week off a guy for $50.
With these, the net, AZ and the Bentley---hopefully it goes smooth. Carbon cleaning too!
PS> I couldnt find the original AZ link to where he discusses this. Any idea where the thread is--where he comments on the pics and procedure?

I went off that first link and just listened to other guys past experiences in the thread below. I myself tried to remove the cam adjust bolt, and like many guys before me I stripped that mother and I was being extremely careful. The bit was seated perfectly fine, but that son of a bitch is on there for good. I ended up pulling the cam tower like everyone said to in the first place. They all complained about having to scrape the old sealant off for hours. I did it in mere minutes. I used a pick tool I had and it cleaned the grooves nicely. Good luck with it man as it isn't a very fun job. Be sure to mark everywhere so you get it timed back correctly. I needed 13 chain links but could always only get 12 between the marks I needed. I walked away for a little bit and came back and was able to finagle that last chain link I needed to get it timed correctly.

I was thinking the original AZ link to the guy who wrote the piece up originally-the kid from Florida. He had a good back and forth about the job with the community.
