View Full Version : Sudden intermittent lots of electrical power

Every now and again I'll run into an issue where I'll suddenly, for no apparent reason, lose most electrical power. the lights and radio shut off, the engine dies out, but there still seems to be accessory power, I should also note that the engine never fully dies, it's always started back up on its own (probably because it's still rolling). Now that im reading this I'm thinking something in the ignition, but my original thoughts were battery terminals or something else obvious. My real question is, are there any other obvious grounds or main electrical connections I should be looking for? I've been all over this car several times so I know my way around it, checked the existing battery terminals (which could certainly be replaced), wiring to and from the starter and alternator but just looking for other main connections I should be looking at. Thanks in advance!

Have you checked around the box containing the ECU or popped the cover off to see if there is any ice/snow/water in there?

Negative, but I'll check that tonight, as well as replace my battery terminals. Thanks.

While you're messing with the battery, pull it out and check the drain underneith isn't clogged.

Ok good call.

I'd look into the ignition switch, I had similar weird stuff going on in my car and I changed the ign switch on a whim and it solved all my problems.

I've kind of been thinking that's the issue. Thanks for the feedback.

Same deal here, thinking it could be the alternator but I replaced that last year. It's as if something is draining the battery while it's trying to run

Yes ignition switch its cheap and pretty easy to throw in.

I threw an ignition switch in last night, it was cheap and easy. I'll update the thread if I continue to have issues but fingers crossed that was it.
