Any of you guys have the Magnaflow Muffler Mirror Finish Stainless Steel Street 14x5x8 2.25/3 D-DW-R-S-L for the 2.8 30v, i am thinking of getting one for my car, hows the sound?

i have that exhaust for my car...it is awsome, it is deffanitly a good choice[up] , it is loud, but not to loud. It sounds really good when you get on it. But overall i love the exhaust and highly recomend it. expecially for the price [:D]

It sounds great, I recommend it and you can't beat the lifetime warranty against defects. It has a nice smooth deep tone (I have just the rear peice 2.5" piping after the resonator). From inside, the engine sound takes over above 4,000rpm, but from outside, you'll hear the exhaust wind all the way up the tach scale ending in a nice high winding V6 sound. Its not intrusive in everyday driving, it sounds like a slightly louder and deeper exhaust over stock, the loudest would be between 2,000-2,300rpm, but never drones.

I had quite possibly the worst set-up (no muffler) for a day, and I came to the conclusion that you cannot make the 2.8 30valve sound ugly.

Okay, so Im a newb when it comes to exhaust systems for cars/car modding in general, but you could take that muffler and just replace the stock muffler with no other piping needed? And would it be a DIY easy somewhat, or take it somewhere? Ive worked on my motorcycle and installed an exhaust on that, so I know how they work and all that, Thanks in advance.

You still need hangers welded on the muffler, as well as weld the pipes together. Its easy to do if you have a welder and pipe bender Im sure, since it only took my muffler guy 15 mins to finish the job. It only cost me about $130 for mine installed (aluminum muffler, 2.5" in, 2.5" out) I just painted my muffler with black high-temperature engine paint so it looks stock and doesn't draw attention to it besides the sporty sound.

Interesting. I need to find a local exhaust shop, and I might be ordering this muffler shortly...

if you want to keep the noise down more, ask for a longer resonator.
to my personal opinion, my exhaust is SOMETIMES still a wee bit too loud for my taste.

the loudest you can get is without a resonator, believe me dude, after awhile it's gonna get annoying. my ear kept ringing even after i got out of the car, when i had no resonator installed. yeah it's that loud.
as you can hear my exhaust is still pretty loud, and that's with resonator on.

talk to the muffler guys, i'm sure they can hook you up with a longer resonator or something that will keep the noise down.
or even try it with the stock resonator first.

lol i jus got lost while readin down this...i too am about to do a muffler set up so i can hear how ppeerrttyyy my 2.8 sounds.
can u run through the parts needed...
we have the:
- #14815 magnaflow muffler(or list other part #s which work)
- about 15 inch resonator(i too do not want it too loud)

wat diameters of the resonator should it be? i saw 2.75 somewhere

also...for the hangers to be welded on, would the muffler shop do that or would i need to supply those hangers?

Ah, Im thinking really hard about this. If I got just the muffler, it would only be about 190-200 installed, but would it really be worth it? I dont want it to be super loud, but just a little deeper than stock. I would probably just keep the stock resonator, as I dont want it abnoxious. HELP ME!!!

Mine is a factory resonator-back set-up, its fairly quiet, louder and much deeper than stock. No drone or resonance. Don't be fooled by the sound at first, it will get louder once you put on the miles so don't remove the resonator until later on if you choose to. In fact, I find it too quiet that I'm going to swap for a Flowmaster Delta series or FloPro V-force muffler (similar in design, no internal packing)

wait what is a resonator? do you need to buy that along with the muffler? Kind of confused here.

LoeA4

The OEM resonator is the unit right in front of the rear axle. Its designed to absorb resonance within a specific frequency.

So im prolly just gunna get the muffler then, cuz ill keep the stock resonator. But I dont want mine to be toooo quiet. does anyone have the part number for the magnaflow resonator that will match up the muffler?

^^ how loud will it be just the muffler? im hoping it will be loud so i dont have to mess with a resonator.

LoeA4

Im note sure how loud it will sound on a 1.8t but its fairly quiet, though louder, than stock.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this exhaust.

Thats the one I am picking up I think the square angle cut tips compliment the car better. Kind of reminds me of the remus style tips
