Pics are kind of small, but you may have some roughness on your cam lobe. Other than that it looks fairly normal.

A normal follower should wear from the inside out based on the cam lobe profile, not create a ring.

I was thinking this was decent. Anyone have a low mileage CF pic??

it's not horrible, just wearing differently due to your cam.

I just installed an INA cam follower this weekend so I won't get to check mine for a while. When I do, I'll post up a picture of how it's wearing.

INA is OEM, so its going to wear dependent on your cam condition.

The one furthest to the right is about 10k if I remember correctly. And that is with an upgraded hpfp.

My opinion is that it is borderline bad for 5k miles. Mine never looked like that at 8k miles when i check it at the oci. Jim's above look about right for 10k especially with the higher capacity HPFP. these place significantly more pressure (about 30%)on the follower and wear the tungsten carbide coating off more quickly as a result. Brillo.

The first one is the original afaik at ~75k. It was always tuned after that. 2nd is ~30k, 3rd 20k, 4th 15k (also upgraded hpfp).

Mine look better than that after 10k with upgraded hpfp. Post up a picture of your cam lobe.

Same, I've gone 15k with an Apr hpfp and the cam follower looked better than that. The black coating wasn't worn through.

This isn't super recent, but the only ones I have. Not 100% of you were taking to me or OP. LOL

Already put it together before the op. I don't think it looked any worse than jimrobbington's pic, but it was dark. Well I guess I might have to change the cam in a year or so. No remarkable irregularities in vag logs. Can't believe krebrew's looked mint @8k. Mine looks like Jim's second from right already.

Mine had some wear on the inside (see the ring at http://postimg.org/image/5op2ccto3/), but was really clean on the outside. I changed it when I put in my upgraded HPFP. Was tuned eurodyne stage 1 at the time. Maybe the hardened cam on the 2008s has something to do with this?

Was referring to the OP, but your's even looks like it has some "smears" on the lobe from a lack of lubrication. Not terrible and obviously still useable, but not ideal. My black coating is just starting to come off at 10k miles with HPFPupgrade stage 1 hpfp. My cam was also replaced in October 2013 though, so it doesn't have that many miles on it.

Yeah, I'm not worried about it. Proper maintenance and it won't make a difference. With JHM giving away followers, it is just another item for every 3rd oil change. Lol
You gais are newbs, just use a sharpie to paint more black coating onto it. Presto! Brand new follower from a 25k old follower.

Lemme go find a sharpie. 4 for $75! I'll even include the sharpie so the coating lasts forever.

I would include your ssn as well so that there is no confusion as to who the item is being sold to.
