yup. nearly rear ended a c4 vette coming out of a long fast right hand sweeper at gingerman. i was full boost before the very late apex and gaining ground fast. he took forever to get the power down before walking away from me on the back straight.

tailed a 911 turbo and a pair of Z06s for a few laps too. some numbnuts wouldn't let them pass so we cruised for the last three laps of the session. actually, they cruised. i hustled my ass off. the P-car and vettes were on street tires. one of the Z06s was running race tires in front only.

i passed a 295 awhp galant vr4 on azenis too. that dude was about 50 and cool as hell. sweet car too. the old skool galants were the beginnings of the evo program.

i went solo so there was no one to hold the camera.

my wife was supposed to come seperately with our boys but she had serious neck pain and didn't want to deal with a 3 year old and infant at the track.

my boss was supposed to bring the cobra out but was having oil pressure issues over 4000 rpm. it's a good thing he didn't come. he tore into the bottom end tuesday night and replaced the main bearings. they wouldn't have made it.

RDI aluminum 427 small block ford.
575hp / 2500 pounds = soiled undies
its rockin' coilovers, wilwoods, 275 front and 315 rear GSD3s.
and best of all, i was signed up as a co driver. i think i can drive it at the cobra track day next month.

action shots from the spring event.

this event was on stock sport springs, oem S4 struts, h-sport sways, A8 brakes, carbotech bobcat pads, 235/45-17 pilot sport street tires. the bobcats couldn't take the heat and neither could the tires. the sways really helped but the springs were too soft. still had a lot of fun.

whooooa there nellie.

i'm weighing options now.

SPP race tech or Evo FMIC
GT28R ATP/Garret cheapie
GTRS on P&P and coated mani
GT28RS .64
GT2871R with light build and balance for 7500 rpm

what i know for sure:
the intercooler will be anodized black.
the HFC and downpipe will be swain coated to keep underhood temps down.
oil and water cooling will be upgraded.
the car will still look stock.
i'm going to get my money's worth.

you need real track wheels. fliks are way too heavy. i got 17x8 crono evos 4 sale

25 x 6 x 2.75 anodized black bar/plate ic core would be perfect behind the stock bumper

get a real mani for the gt28r, if you're serious i can hook it up

the bbs wheels are about 23 pounds each. the fliks are about 18 and fit my winter criteria; cheap, strong, easy to clean.

225/45-17 m2 snowsports get swapped onto the flik wheels this fall.
i also really like the kosei K-1 TS. my boss has a black s4 avant with those wheels. gunmetal would rock.

i love the chronos but i'm not getting anything new unless it is wider.

mani would be sweet. what did you have in mind?

cronos are like 16.x lbs in 17x8. i thought your fliks were track wheels. They're fine winters but what are your track wheels then? the BBS's are really heavy.

i would be refering to a pes mani or maybe an apr kit.

Nope - I wasn't even aware they had that - I might have to meet up with you guys sometime. By the way - I am a professional race driver and have instructed for 8 years. If they need instructors for their track days - I'd be happy to lend a hand.

Onemoremile - looks badass, man. i can't wait to get out on the track myself, but i need to do some brake upgrades and the stock sport susp. won't cut it....like you mentioned. just auto-xing for now. [:(]

great to see an avant out there!

btw, what seats/harnesses are you using?

my power perspective is about to get f*cked with. my car started hiccupping yesterday morning. it did it three times when pulling away from stop signs and stalled once. on top of that, it is still really low, i have a small cut in the left rear sidewall, and i could use an oil change. oh, and i'm driving 7 hours to louisville at noon.

my boss says "hmm, why don't you take my car?". his car happens to be a 2001 s4 avant with APR chip, RS4 takeoff turbos, big intercoolers, silk nappa leather, and freeway comfy stock suspension. it is how i would imagine a personal jet would drive.

i only have to deal with 4 screws to move my bike rack over. the phanoise is only 3 screws. yup, i get to keep my 3000 songs with me.

when i get back in my loud, anemic, rough riding avant monday morning it will feel about as cool as wet poo.

They do that on Sundays dont they? Is it everyone or just one a month?

well, the bad news is that i missed driving the cobra on the track. that was the same as my bike trip weekend.

the good news is that the s4 was amazing. the difference in the power delivery couldn't be any more night and day. there was no reason to downshift out of 6th to pass. there was no reason to use 1st when rolling away from a stop.

i may still build a 8000 rpm 1.8t but i'll never stop wanting the s4 powerplant. it is just amazing.
