View Full Version : cam chain tensioner tool doesn't fit...

I'm replacing my valve cover gasket on my B5 A4 (AEB engine) as a DIY for the first time. I've been staring at the cam chain tensioner seal and wondering if i should tackle that. I have the Schwaben tool but it doesn't fit between the chain and 'post' in front of the chain... i'm estimating 1 to 2 mm interference. So is it acceptable to try to 'slide' the chain rearward on the chain guide? There's obviously a lot of resistance to that since the tensioner is tensioning, and so i'd have to figure out some sort of clamping mechanism to force it to slight aft a bit. Any advice? Thanks. Yeah just slide the chain towards the rear of the car to make the tool fit

No clamping mechanism needed. Just put your Big Pants on and git-r-done.
