Took in my car to the local stealer to get the oil topped off since it was low a quart, mentioned the brakes squeal like a pig. They stated they still had a bit left on them, and that replacing them would not be covered by Audi Care. I inquired how much it would cost, and was quoted $1100 for new fronts and $900 for new rears. [eek]
What have others paid for new pads?

Thats clearly not just for new pads. Sounds like those quotes are for new pads rotors and wear sensors

I am pretty sure they quotes the full swap. I know with the fronts you really can't do 2 sets of pads to 1 rotor. You have to swap out the rotors with the pads every time. The rears you might be able to do 2 sets of pads to a rotor but I am not sure it's worth trying.

As far as pricing goes, it seems a bit high. Get a quote from an independent shop, make sure the parts they want to use are OEM or better in quality.

I paid $700 for the rears including rotors. Front I would just do yourself if you have the ability. They are really easy and it will save you you some $$.

That just depends on how you drive the car and how hard you are on the brakes. I got 2 sets of pads to 1 set of rotors on my old B5 S4. I even cut them also and they were fine. No issues with them.

Uh. WTF? You're saying you'll need new rotors with each set of pads? Not true. I've tracked on OEM rotors amd pads, worn out several sets of pads, upgraded to better pads and used same rotors. Finally said F it and went BBK.

You should try to swap out your own front pads, even just once to realize how easy it really is.

My experience with my S4 was as follows:

- Factory OEM Pad sensor was triggered at 34k miles
- That was the only set of pads to the set of rotors
- I had an independent shop measure pads and rotors all around
- They then compared to thresholds in their database
- Everything was under the recommended measurements and needed to be replaced.

That was 1 set of pads and 1 set of rotors from 0 miles to 34,000 miles.

Ok sure. 34k on a set of pads and rotors...maybe both need replacing. But that doesn't mean every set of pads require new rotors, as chaos says...depending on driving styles, etc.

Fed- you should be able to visually inspect the pads without even taking off the wheels. Can you see your pads?

You can always turn the rotors too. I haven't seen them off my car so I don't know if it can be done or what condition yours are in - but don't bother with the stock rotors if you are going to go that route - spend a bit more money and DIY on a BBk if you want to spend 2K on brakes already :p

I went in for a 45K service today and they've just emailed me a quote to replace the front and rear pads/rotors. Fronts at $726.50 and rears at $760.

Thinking of getting some Adam's Rotors and new pads instead... Unless there's more to just replace the rotors and pads??

It would almost make more sense to just get a BBK instead of paying $1500 to replace rotors/pads

Just ordered a set of ceramic pads w sensors off rock auto for 77 shipped f and r. Rotors look fine w only 26k miles. I'll assemble as soon as it's a bit warmer out. New rotors are cheap too oem pads/rotors are like 400 f and r. Go to am Indy shop to install prob run you 300
