led are for looks, hid are are for "performance" make sure you get a 35w kit so you dont melt the housings

I feel that OEM foglight housings do not project light out enough for it to be worth the hassle of setting up HIDs and mounting the ballasts. That's why I just got LEDs to match my DRLs.
Besides the fact that I am so lazy that I have my headlight switch on "Auto" all the time and never remember to turn on the foglights. The only time they go on is when I unlock the car at night so I really just wanted something that would make all my exterior white lights match.
I have to note that this is my first-ever car equipped with HIDs so just the normal low-beams of the headlights are plenty bright for me...but that might be due to my history having owned less expensive cars.

You could also use performance LED.

I retrofitted projectors into my housings, I would not recommend.

i could almost bet they would have a rubbish beam pattern even at all, there is no light emitted from the front, just looks like a con to me. Cree bulbs are very good especially ones with the built in mini projectors

What's everyone doing for b8.5s facelifts? Anything to consider?

actually the opposite. I have them installed in my wife's 2015 Highlander for the headlights and foglights. They work very well.
I tried a set of LEDs (80w Cree projectors) in my b8.5, but the housing sucks for increasing light in any way. Ended up going back to my 3000k halogen bulbs.

I used the 30W CREE LEDs from here:
http://www.horizonleds.co.uk/cree-leds/fog-light-cree-led-bulbs/h8-cree-led
They're awesome. Good match to the DRLs. The guy I was talking to was really good to deal with too.
Also did CREE LED F&R indicators.
