View Full Version : CPO with one odd carfax item? Safe to buy?

Folks,

2nd Bun in the oven, have to ditch the RS5 sadly. Looking at S7 to replace it.

Found a 2014 CPO S7 with 8k miles and good price but one funky item in the carfax report. At ~5k miles the following items show up "water pump replaced, radiator/condensor fan module replaced, 2-wheel alignment"

Red flag or red herring?

Never bought CPO before, looking for some crowd sourced wisdom.

Thanks,
Jp

Take the VIN to an Audi dealer or AOA and ask for details. An inspection can also check for any other potential damage or perhaps rule out an accident.

mossehead1 is on the money about an inspection. Check around for an independent Audi shop (not a dealer).

Also, CPO may not mean what you think it means. Check out the thread "Feeling-deceived-and-disappointed-with-Audi-CPO (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/629780-Feeling-deceived-and-disappointed-with-Audi-CPO)". It's a long thread but worth a read.

I am the victim in that thread. I recommend you to do multiple test drives on different kind of roads like bumpy, rough(in dynamic mode) and get it inspected with a professional mechanic. Especially the paint at different parts of the car(inside door near hinges, where one part touches the other part of the car). All I suggest is to be super careful while going for CPO.

CoJoe, I bought an S7 CPO out of Chicago and as long as you do your diligence, it is a Thumbsup.

CPOs are a fine choice, as long as you read the CPO document and understand what you are buying.

We bought an A7 that was CPO with 8k miles. It was just like new but with a longer warranty. Go drive it and buy it!

I definitely don't give the CPO much credit, after my experience!

Yours is a potential anomaly, but even if it isn't, I don't think there is much argument that from a warranty perspective, you are better covered in a CPO car than a non-CPO car once you're outside the factory 4/50 or whatever it is. The problem I do have in your situation is that had you not figured all of this out, you could have potentially shown up for a warranty repair, only to have them try and pin the TD-1 flag on you. I haven't read through your entire thread yet, but I'm curious whether the initial TD-1 flagging date is noted in their systems, such that Audi could be convinced that this ball was dropped on their (or their dealership network) end, rather than on you.

I'd go CPO in a heartbeat...

Hell, I was about to go take an anal-raping on trading my A7 on Tuesday because my local dealer had a CPO S7 with 14K full warrantied until 2020... I was all in, but they sold the damn thing before I could get there Tuesday.

Had daycare not been closed and my 2 year old not been with me Monday for MLK day, I'd by one happy and broke S7 driver right now!!! :)

I'd say GO FOR IT!!!

^Silverarrow, if you haven't yet tried autotrader or cars.com to sell a vehicle, you should try, a go it's fairly easy. Disregard this comment if you otherwise enjoy that type of intercourse at the stealership. As a dealer salesman recently remarked, "In two decades of doing this, no one has ever thanked me for my purchase price amount for their trade in".

Yeah, good question! When I called Audi that day, it was NOT in their system yet. They said it usually will "eventually" update. So yes, I would have "eventually" been screwed, haha.

I LOL'd when I read the first part of this post.

Also, I agree that CPO is a good way to go but just because it's CPO, it's still worth time and effort to get an independent mechanic check the car out.

Hahahahaha touche sir! No one likes the "complimentary banana in the tail pipe" that all dealers give you fir service or sales... :)

I'll give it a shot! With the CPO loyalty credit and interest rate, I wouldn't have taken that bad of a bath... Plus that S7 was soooo sexy

My S6 is a CPO and it's been nothing but a joy. My former car, a Porsche Cayenne S was a CPO and I drove it until the end of the CPO warranty. Every issue was covered under the CPO warranty except a gas cap for some reason. But it had a steering issue and and air suspension issue. Both would have been expensive and both were covered under CPO.

Thanks everyone. I actually found a better alternative without the questionable items in it's history. Will still be driving and looking close but, feeling better about this deal. Includes Audi Care too which the other didn't .

Ha! Will soon. Gonna get some clear bra / tint and a spit shine before taking some glamor shots. Pretty stoked on the car though. Just blasted it back from Chicago... good lord that thing can eat some highway.
