Hi
Has anyone used E85 for 4.0 TFSI engine?
Thx

I doubt it. E85 has an effective octane rating somewhere north of 100. What's more likely is that Audi does not use an in-tank ethanol sensor and won't know that the oxygen content has changed (meaning that more fuel is required for the same mass of air ingested). Couple that with injectors that may suddenly be too small and you'll be buying a new engine for reasons other than detonation.

My ex Bmw 335i could take 100% E85 after modification so the question is if there is anyone who has changed ignition in ecu and let use any kind of E85 %. E85 has aprox 104-108 octane.

E85 is like race gas. Definitely high octane and some people feel that it actually makes more power than e.g. C16 race gas.

The problem with E85 setups is fueling. The engine needs about 30% more fuel than normal gas, which for high performance setups makes it difficult or not cost effective.

I remember when I had my built EVO, I was running double 255lbs Walbro fuel pumps and 1200cc injectors, They were good for race gas and up to 35-36 psi boost, but for E85 I would need 1600cc injectors at minimum and preferably ID2000s... Somewhere you win and somewhere you loose.

I can't even imagine the cost or the difficulty to modify a DFI engine that in essence does not have injectors to run E85. I think this is the issue with the newer 911 turbos since they are DFI too.

wait...you want to put e85 into the stock engine...?

You can do that with no issues, assuming the 4.0T injectors and HPFPs have enough overhead (I assume they do). I guess I should say that the engine and fueling components are able to handle ethanol.

People on the B8 S4 run a 60/40 mix of 91/E85 with the race gas tune. A stage 2 RS7 on E85 would be nuts.

I would assume the injectors and the FP would need to be changed or modified to accommodate e85. But I might be wrong. Perhaps you could tune the car into not throwing codes for the change in fuel needed for air taken in?

Exactly. Why?

I was only asking if anyone has done it or tune is capable take E85. That's all :)

More power. Unless you mean while running the stock tune, in which case I agree; why?

E85 conversion and tuning not gonna happen for a while. No way the stock injectors can handle flow and load. DFI also makes it more difficult considering nobody has injectors/pumps or any supporting modifications to take advantage of the increase in power provided by e85. Which then means, No tuning.
From conversations with people in the industry, DFI is a tall obstacle to overcome and the cost/time to develop is simply not cost effective. Nothing coming soon.
In the meantime, the use of a lesser "potent" fuel such as 100 race gas is our best option to post numbers at the strip. If a tune becomes available for c116 or VP import, count me in. Imo this thread is dead.

Until someone logs injector duty cycle, there is no reason to believe it can't be done.

Eventually someone, such as injector dynamics, will figure out direct injection. Has nothing to do with IDC. No way in hell the stock injectors can provide flow for ethanol. That's only part of the equation. FP and other fueling components must be designed.
Stick with race has until the day comes.
Trust me I'm waiting[emoji75]

It would be amazing on this platform. The B8.5 A4 & Allroads see great gains when running a tune on E85 (the cars came E85 capable from factory) and those engines are only paired with the 8speed transmissions because they can handle the torque. Besides the injectors, the pump, lines and a few other parts are needed to do it. These cars have a 5th injector for that E85 capability as well.

Here in aus APR run a designated tune for E85 (104RON) that supposedly has not presented any issues with clients cars, with nukin futs gains.
