Okay, this is where I'm really torn. I love my Heidi (car) a lot - and I wan't to get her a chip. But...I love dogs, and I want to get myself a dog as soon as possible, and i have to buy it (for personal reasons). I just wanted to see what you guys think...dog? or the chip? It's completely subjective, but i might just tally up the choices and go for what the majority says.

Wow, a poll without the actual Poll options.

lol why not wait and save up some more so you can buy both at once. If it was me I'd go with the dog just because it will be there with you alot longer then the chip and they are good companions. what kind of dog are you looking at? A chip would be awesome though.

the humane society will give you a dog . . .

It has to have hair, because I'm allergic to fur/dander.

What type of dog are you gonna get?

x2 on naming it Chip!

chip first, then dog.

dogs cost much more than a chip in the long run. food, vet visits, grooming, misc expenses, etc..

get a mutt from the humane society if you can. pure breds tend to have a more health issues.

I have had a 9 year old 110 pound chow black lab mix named Jackson for 8 years. i got him from an ex-girlfriend that has been under lesbian suspicion since day one.
We also have a 5 year old 60 pound chow akita mix named Tika that my wife and I rescued from the Jabbas next door on our honeymoon in Moab.

Chip first, then humane society and adopt a terrier mix(no fur, just hair).

Keep in mind that a Dog isn't a mod though. As onemoremile said, a dog is an ongoing expense. vet visits, food, toys, etc...all those things can easily add up to more than a chip in a short time. A dog isn't a decision you should make on a whim like a chip either.

My advice- get a chip now, think about the dog some more.

It's not a whim, I was planning on getting a dog. I've had a dog ever since I was 3 years. The dog I have at home at the parents house is a terrier (silky) - they're cute and all, but its not a guys dog - those things are bitches, not literally.

Jackson is definitely a man's dog. he is oil slick black and looks like a wolf with a purple tongue. the ladies just loooooove him. he helped me score big points when i met my wife. also, she is the only person that has ever snuck into my house without him barking. she scored HUGE points with that.

i figure the dogs cost between $1000 and $3000 a year. they eat close to a grand in food alone.

i would get the chip and get a FREE DOG from the pound. Heck you will be saving its life....

I would do a chip. I lack much compassion for animals, mainly because they make me sneeze and rub my eyes alot.

i remember the look my chow/pit mix gave me the day i had to put him to sleep because of his almost killing my sister. one of the saddest days of my life. If i had tons of cash i would pay so i never have to see that look on a dogs face ever again. It was well aware of what was gona happen to it.

This is one tough decision, a dog is a huge responsibility. It seems to me nobody really knows how big of a responsibility until it's too late, and they end up giving the dog away or put it to sleep. I don't regret getting my rott though..

Alright guys, I think I have made my decision. I'm going to get a dog. It will be a miniature Schnauzer (the pompous german dog), and will be the best. It was my first dog of my life, and I love them - loyal, smart and fortunately, furless. I can only have a hair dog because I'm allergic to fur, plus the shedding of a fur dog is a PITA to clean. One thing I have heard throughout and throughout...I'm going to name it "Chip." A fitting name for a fitting dog! haha...thanks to everyone for your input.!

Holy crap, My parents dog is also a min-schnauzer!!! His name- Chipper!!! well close enough! I got him when I was 16, I'm 28 now. My parents wouldn't let me take him with me when I moved out. He's still a great watch dog and full of love and affection. Great choice my friend. I was against it at first, but you've made a good decision. I'm on board now.

you could also name it turbo.

an old roomate used to give my dog all sorts of nasty leftovers. one day he gave him half a protein drink. we should have called the dog Blow Off Valve or Wastegate! nasty, nasty stuff.

oh yeah, two long haired dogs, both with downy undercoats, makes for a LOT of grooming and sweeping. very high maintenance.
