blew up my motor this summer before a deployment and decided to try a turbo upgrade people on Facebook have been raving about. I went with the FTG Motorsports K04-15 billet housing turbo. My car prevously had a k04 in it but I was a little nervous about reinstalling it after it had ingested some valve seat and head material. I am currently running a GIAC K04 tune at the moment with an adjustable FPR a TT high flow cat and a 2.5 in Remus exhaust. Also running 2.0t coils with the ICM delete. I went with a stg3 240mm clutch kit from ringer racing since my southbend clutch was nearly worn out. I rebuilt a junkyard motor using an ATW bottom end and a nearly brand new AEB factory replacement head off of another motor. Since the car blew up in MD and I live in NC (besides the fact that I had too much other work to complete at home. just swapped out my trans from an auto to manual in my passat and putting a big turbo 1.8t in my Corrado) I towed my engine in my trailer up to Induktion Motorsports in Severn to finish the process. The install should start this week. Wish me luck with my progress.

Sorry for the crappy phone pick. Had all of the accessory brackets, oil pan, valve cover and intake powdercoated.

A lot of folks on FB swear by them. Haven't heard of and reliability issues. A friend of mine who owns a shop won't install a Frankenturbo anymore after the trouble he's had with the company trying to replace several turbos. They seem to always claim it's his fault...

I got the stage 4 and really like it. Make sure you torque your bolts right :) mine backed out originally. Mike said anything under 25 is safe, so I did 25ft lbs. Maybe do like 20. 18 is stock but you could double check.

Getting closer. Would have been done except for a stupid mistake I made not cleaning the block properly before installing the head gasket. Had a coolant leak due some scotch brite material stuck on the gasket had to replace my new head gasket and new head bolts!http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq15/Slodoba/Audi/2baeefb0679b3a477a9242e90202c4c7_zps9bbdc2d0.jpg

Drove it on its maiden voyage with the new motor. Can ran smooth however it only spikes around 10 psi. I'll need to adjust the wastegate rod but I'll do that after I get a few more miles on it. I had a bad power steering leak by the cooler so I had to take the front bumper off. This gave me the opportunity to install the front mount. Now have to shave down part of the bumper so everything bolts up correctely

Impossible task to get this bumper to work with this damn intercooler. Luckily I do have an S4 bumper down the road getting painted.
Only pic a had after I patched the hole in it and before I sanded it down.

Why is it an impossible task? Ive dealt with 2 different bumpers on my car and havent had any problems. Cut the metal reinforcement and trim the bumper as needed.

The metal reinforcement wasn't the issue it was here the bottom of the bumper tapers in at the bottom used my cutoff wheel and sanding disk to remove most of the material in the way while keeping my grills intact. Got the stock bumper in place but the lower valence is hanging really low. Also had to make a cut in my Thor skid plate to clearance the turbo outlet pipe. Got the CX racing intercooler kit.

I checked yesterday to see if my bumper was ready that my painter said would be ready last week. )actually has been in his shop for the past 6 months! This is the state I found it in

Got the s4 side skirts as well I hear that a Corrado spoiler has the same contours as our trunk lids so I'm going to give that a try as well.

Sounds more like your fmic is hanging down too low. Ive seen countless installs on here where people mount them too low and it pushes down on the valence.

That's kinda how the CX Racing FMIC kit was designed. Or, at least mine is a bit like that too. The hot-side pipe wraps under the AC lines, which is good for SAI pump and fog light fitment, but also makes the pipe sit really low.

That sucks. With piping hanging down that low I would be worried. The piping kit I got from Godspeed was made to run on top of the ac lines, which I just assumed all kits were made that way and people were installing them wrong, but I guess not.

Well I checked Monday and the A-hole still didn't have my bumper ready managed to force the old bumper on and zip tie the lower valance in place. This is its current state. Still haven't played with the waist gate to up the boost and have to go on a deployment for 2 weeks so I'm not going to see it for a while.

Still holding up well after 3k miles but still haven't jacked it up to adjust the wastegate.

Have the Thor skid plate to take off which I have no desire to tackle. The warped rotors are a bigger priority right now. Finally got the front bumper and sideskirts from the painter.

It's a CXRacing intercooler however the outlet pipe sits too low on one side.

How is that turbo doing????

Mine has 10,000 miles on it so far. Had to take it off this weekend and put a spacer in between the wastegate bushing and the cast housing..the flap was sticking open due to the actuating arm pushing the bushing into the housing allowing the flap to move back and forth. Have kept it on 15 psi but just bought Bosch 550's and a stage 2+ tune from reflect tuning. No major shaft play and doesn't burn any oil.

I've seen only a handful of people have issues with these turbos, and the owner of FTG is quite easy to work with from what I've encountered.

Still wouldn't put one on my car

Do you have any idea on the power numbers your making?

You would think power would be same as a bw k04 based on psi and mods. K04 max at 220 whp Ish I think with no e85 or meth.

I would think the power is more than a BW k04.... the k04-15xl uses an rs4 CHRA which has a larger compressor/turbine than a typical k04...

OK so more like Franken turbo F21 power 250whp on a happy dyno, no meth or e85. if its more like FT F4-L thats 230 whp

Update. Still having a low boost issue.
Had some big issues with FTG. Got a replacement k04-15xl to replace my k04-15x in the Audi since the oil seal started to leak. With the new turbo I still had a boost issue. Did a leak check but determined that wasn't the issue. Still was thinking my boost issue was due to the turbo. Thought the wastegate was stuck partially open. So I took it out and had it inspected and rebuilt. Noticed a lot of shaft play only after 20k. Had Tims Turbos in Annadale Va rebuild it. He said they put shitty bearings in it. Luckily he had a Borg Warner kit and it was compatible. He clipped the exhaust turbine because he saw an inherent flaw in the design. I got it back but am having the same low boost issue. Now only spiking at 12psi. Before the full engine rebuild and stock k04 i was maxing around 21 psi. Since it was professionally rebuilt I'm thinking that maybe I might have a MAF issue.

I typically max out at 25 psi and hold 20 steady on my K04XL. My brother puts down the same numbers in his b5 as my b6. My S4 on the other hand ;)

I installed a new MAF but am still having the same issue. A friend of mine mentioned about check valve under the intake manifold that could be the culprit. Does anybody know where it is on an AEB motor?

That's the amount of boost I'm running on my b5.5 Passat wagon with a reflect tuning tune and a k04. Wish my Audi would run half as good.

Check around man there's prob a boost Leah somewhere. Check n make sure everything is tight. If that fails close off the nipple in the turbo that might do the trick
