View Full Version : Awe track vs touring? Which one

Hey all I'm new to this site, and also fairly new to my s4. I was just wondering if anyone has heard both the touring and track exhausts from awe tuning and which one sounds better? Sorry if this has already been a topic.
You'd have to hear them in person or watch a millions YouTube videos. You could always buy the touring edition and, if it's not loud enough cut the rear mufflers out to make it louder.
for me it's really a no-brainer. track is less expensive and louder. since i'm going for the most sound, it really didn't make sense for me to pay more for a quieter exhaust.
there are literally like two videos out there of an awe track on a 3.0t. but going by awe's video and my past experience with the track exhaust on my v8 s5, i took the plunge and ordered the track with the non-resonated dps. i'm getting them installed in about two weeks and will have a video up around then.

Save your money and go custom. Exhaust are wayyy overpriced for these cars with barely any performance gains.

I vote track. Agree with GSS... Louder and lower cost. Done deal. My AWE w non res DP's is awesome though.

i'd rather pay several hundred bucks more for a system that i know has had some degree of research and development invested into it. and nobody here gets an exhaust expecting tangible performance gains.

I went with the track. Cost wasn't a deciding factor though. I wanted a loud setup so i opted for the track edition. I think if you daily your car and do a lot of highway driving then you should consider the touring system. The rear mufflers help eliminate that highway drone at 70 under load with partial throttle which is present with the track system, isn't obnoxiously loud though.. Op I'd consider this in your purchase decision but if you think it won't be an issue then go for the track. For my use it's been absolutely perfect! Zero complaints in the few months Ive had it on. Awe systems produce the best sounding tone for this car imo. Literally every person that has heard my car said you went from Prius to beast! People never really gave my s4 a second look but I get thumbs ups and props all the time now
Here's what it looks like mounted under the car. You can see its essentially the touring with straight pipes after the mid muffler.

I pay for the sound "engineering", i.e the r&d that goes in to produce a refined tone across the rpm range.
If you want to pay 200$ for a magnaflow x pipe + mufflers and cross your fingers, go for it.
Personally I find the touring w/o downpipes loud enough.
My AWE track edition will be here tomorrow!

No stock dp at the moment. Happy with how it sounds though I may opt for non res or res dp's down the road, haven't decided if I want more or less sound.. Have a year from purchase date to buy them at the lower package price.

I run the track setup on my 3.2 A5, and have the MK7 track pipes going on my GTI next week. I like loud when I want it loud, and I've had zero issues keeping quiet when needed as well. Happy to source [up]

Thanks! Yea it seems like I'll probably go for the track I was leaning towards that anyways. What's a good brand of intake?

roc euro's the one everyone will probably recommend since it supposedly gives the most gains in terms of both power and sound. i didn't go with it for three reasons - 1.the supercharger whine becomes too loud 2.i've read of fitment issues 3.it completely removes the oem heat shield (which i believe is there for a reason). i went with the eurocode trufit for the price, and eurocode's general reputation on this forum.

That was my concern too with the track... My car is a 6spd, so if I'm "granny shifting", will it wake up my whole neighborhood when I drive through?

I'm running catless testpipes with the track and my neighbors don't care (about the cold starts and just cruising through). I park in a garage though and the houses in our neighborhood have quite a bit of space in between. If you're doing just the track on stock cats it's not loud enough to where you'll annoy anyone. These cars are fairly quiet with just a catback compared to v8 cars running a catback ( that is under part throttle, at WOT you're gonna wake the whole block up!) Keep the revs at or under 2k and no one will complain

Will have one soon... I kind of did it in a rush.
Just keep in mind, those YouTube videos doesn't cut it... you need to hear one in person.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the track is essentially a muffler delete?

Quick question, I'm getting the track one this spring. What does the awe downpipes offer? Will they make the exhaust louder over stock dp's? I know that any exhausts on this car offer nearly no performance gains. Just wondering what the gain is of the upgraded dp's??

Not the best vid but my brother went to out and took a clip in "sports" mode. I would've done it in manual but I'll get around to making some new vids eventually.
edit: this is track + stock dp.

That sounds way quieter than I would've imagined...anyone with track exhaust + res dips have a video? That may be the perfect combo
