Hey fellas,

Obviously brand new to the forums, and for good or bad, I have been lurking around for a bit. I have a 2015 S4 6MT that I would like to add a little bit more go to. However I live in Denver where altitude loss on N/A cars is huge factor, and to lessor extent than F/I. However I have learned that unlike a turbo charger, a supercharger at altitude will make less boost than requested at sea level (whereas a turbo will still compress the thinner air to achieve similar sea level amounts of boost). I know that one way to correct this would be with a smaller pulley and tune (e.g. GIAC Stg 2). However, I was wondering if just a stg 1 ecu tune would also increase boost at altitude. So with that info I would like to know:

1) Is just a simple ecu tune worth it at 5,000 ft? Does stg 1 produce more boost, or is that only accomplished with a smaller pulley+ecu tune. I am not trying to break into the 11's or anything like that, but at the same time don't mind spending the extra money for much better results at altitude.

2) I have heard that Audi will literally break into your house punch your wife, spit in your face, and take your first born if you are flagged TD1. One way to avoid this from happening (although not 100% guaranteed) is flash the ecu back to stock before taking it in for warranty work. Does this method still work if the car is chipped with a pulley (I believe it does)?

3) Lastly any guys running JUST a stg 2 setup with no intake and/or exhaust? I get that these cars benefit from an intake and such, but I really want to keep everything stock except for the ecu and pulley. I guess what I am asking is if there is any harm in running a completely stock setup with a chip and a smaller pulley.

Thanks in advance, and if I sound like an idiot please feel free to tell me.

Merry Christmas!

The factory ecu does a pretty good job hitting targeted boost with these cars at altitude. Stage 2 is necessary at your altitude to reach most stage 1 numbers at sea level.

An intake is usually good for 2mph so while not necessary they do make more power

It's fine to run just stage 2 though I think an upgraded cooling system is a huge help to make consistent power. I ran with just stage 2 and intake for a couple months. It was fine like that but the car would suffer from heat soak very quickly in summer heat. Car feels much faster with everything I've done since then

I live in Denver too and recently did the giac stage 2. Very happy with the results, big gain in power. I have the awe intake, stock exhaust for now. I'm sure doing a coolant system upgrade would also help, but this is my dd, I have a dedicated track car...

Stage 1 or 2 will definitely jeapordize your warranty, dealer will td1 the car

Drop me a line if you want to check out my car

Sounds good appreciate the offer. Might be nice to compare stock to stg 2, especially at altitude. I think once 5,000 miles hits I'll spring for giac stg 2. As for as TD1 issues go, the plan is to just reflash the back to stock before any dealer trips. [up]

I wish I had a shop that carried ANY of the tuning options here in Spokane, WA...that way I could in fact do the flash back to stock when I get it serviced.
