View Full Version : 2001 Audi A4 1.8 sputtering/misfiring?

So my car started sputtering and misfiring at idle and low speeds coincidently right after I had just finished beating a 06 Ford focus in a little "street race" haha. So I plugged in the scanner and it gave me the P0300 "random/multiple cylinder misfire" code. (It told me specifically cylinders 2 and 4 were misfiring). So I replaced all the spark plugs and ignition coils (having bought the car 7,000 miles ago I had no idea when they had been replaced last). Now my car is still sputtering at idle and low speeds but the scanner is not giving me any codes. If I put my foot down it will go through all the gears with no sputter, once again it only seems to sputter at idle and slow speeds, especially reverse.

Any idea what I should look at next?
BTW. I had previously replaced 02 sensors and MAF.

It is a 5 speed

Just a thought: have you tried unplugging -> re plugging in the battery?

Also a throttle body adjustment could help in that process.

Reset the car a little bit.

So after you replaced the spark plugs and coils did the code go away or is the code still there?

After I replaced they spark plugs and coils the code went away, yes.

update, I just took my car out and it is now giving me a P0507 (Idle control system RPM high) along with cylinder misfire codes in all of the cylinders, (P0300 series).

last update: I found out that the air hose connected to the MAF had slipped off. [facepalm] So I just reconnected that and I'm back in the game. Thanks to those who took the time to help me out!
