A few months ago I saw a thread on some detailing forum where a guy made OEM RS4 mufflers (the whole muffler, not just the tips) look like new again, and he mentioned the product he used, just can't remember what it was. It literally made them look like brand new mufflers, I was impressed and thought I bookmark'ed the thread, but I didn't apparently.

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

If your looking to remove carbon buildup from the exhaust tips then you need a polishing soap(Personally i use P21s polishing soap) and that worked brilliantly on my B8 S4 muffler. #0000 wool is what you would be using along with your polishing soap. Once that is done you should have a clean exhaust and should look pretty much brand new. If you really want to add shine after that then you would need a metal polish once the exhaust is cleaned and use a ball buster attachment on a regular corded drill(or cordless however battery may run out due to polishing time). This will remove any excess oxidation you were not able to remove by hand and will really shine up the exhaust! You can do all of this by hand including the metal polish part however it will take a lot longer :)

Good luck!

I used barkeeper's friend. Yes the same stuff that you clean stainless pots and pans with. Amazing results and did not damage polished surfaces.

I have had great luck with never dull or blue magic . Both of them are usually readily available at most stores. Don't forget steel wool 000 or 0000 to clean them which will help the polishing part . But if you want them to bling you could sand them with 1500 -3000 sandpaper then use the Polish to make them pop!

Are all of these suggestions mostly for chrome exhaust tips?

What do you all suggest for brushed stainless?

It is a little unusual but the barkeepers friend works on both polished and brushed steel. you can get it in a powder form and that works better than the cream.

Update. I used on my polished tips 4 weeks ago and they still look great.

I had some around the house and used this last weekend. It works great.

Funny, I bought my car used with Titanium pkg and thought the tips were supposed to look that dark.

It may or may not be the same thread, but I do remember somebody going all out with polishing his mufflers and I believe the products that he used were Red Bear Metal Polish and Blue Magic Metal Polish (in combo)
The Red Bear is a copper polish compound and he followed up with the Blue Magic metal polish

I used the Barkeepers Friend. Brushed Stainless tips are all better now and it took little effort. Thanks for the tip!

I think we all have said a quality product but like anything that's under your car ,its not gonna be just wipe on wipe off, your are gonna need to get your hands dirty and put a little elbow grease to make them look new.
