Does anyone have pictures from the European 2015 or North American 2016 version of the new HUD? Trying to figure out if it will show different information or not from the previous models given the new tech.

Obviously 2016's aren't out yet, but I didn't know if anyone saw it at the autoshows.

I haven't seen anything mentioning a revised HUD, although if they are changing the interior, I'd imagine they might have revised it. The best articles about the 2016 model updates are:

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. If they are updating the gauge cluster, then maybe the HUD was upgraded. Trying to figure out whether to bite on a CPO 2014 or go order new. I know this is a minuscule item, but I'm looking for the last little bit of wind to push me in a direction

Re-worked tranny, sleeker shift knob, new GPU MMI, improved MPG & sepang blue exterior sold me on a 2016 that were not available when I last considered a S6 in 2013. All small things, but pushed me to purchase a 2016 one. Since the re-worked the dash (larger MMI display for example), I'm hoping the HUD is slightly less ugly now. For me, the other small items were more important though.

Been seeing the same pics for month, so can't tell if they are truly 2016's, but HUD looks similarly clunky to older models. Picture might not even be real, looks simulated to me:

Wish we could see what was projected though. Hoping the new MMI and gauges mean new display.

In the pictures on Fourtitude, you can (barely) see that the HUD is slightly more streamlined and better integrated than the last iteration. Not as nice as with the current A/S8, but an improvement.

I remember reading that you can manipulate what's being projected to some extent with VAG-COM.

Currently, the only things you can add via vagcom are oil temp and gear. That's visible in the HUD while in lap time mode.

Seriously why can't they add a tach to the display?

FWIW....When you add lap timer and oil temp you get a shift light bar when in manual mode.

i read somewhere that the new hud would be more integrated with the dash, unlike it is now, an afterthought. the europeans have the facelift already so there should be pictures of it somewhere. in terms of functionality, one would assume more info but i wouldn't be surprised if it's the same.

edit: found this photo which is supposed to be the facelifted version. looks identical to pre-facelift. oh well.

No, it's slightly different. The top of the HUD is more stylized and curved. Not significantly better, but better nonetheless.

I appreciate the feedback, but I think most of the conversation has been on the wrong topic. This thread was not meant to be about the housing, but instead what is actually projected. As mentioned earlier, it would be nice to have a tach. Also, with the new gauges and MMI, maybe better nav in the HUD will appear.

I'm not sure what the point of a digital tachometer would be when you have the large gauge right in front of you.

All I want is a HUD that works with polarized glasses. I am pissed that my 2015 doesn't work once I put on my sunglasses. I bought an $80,000 car and the HUD doesn't work when I put on my sunglasses, which is necessary when driving my daily commute half the time.

Just buy non-polarized sunglasses.

Polarized sunglasses would work if you put a CRT screen on the dashboard :-).

No kidding, I have a non-polarized sunglasses in Audi just for the purpose of seeing HUD information.

The HUD on my M5 was the same way. I don't know of an HUD that's visible with polarized sunglasses. It's what they're intended to do, remove glare (or in this case a projected reflection) from the surface by blocking the vertical component of light.

HUD is pretty much useless during the day since I refuse to buy non-polarized glasses.

I use Drivewear polarized sunglasses and, although it dims the image somewhat, I can read it in all conditions except when driving into glare.

The same point as having a digital speedometer in the HUD when the analog gauge is already there - to keep eyes on the road. I am aware of the shift bar in lap timer. I was annoyed accidentally hitting redline so I vagged it to up shift in manual also.

Wish there was a way to hold down the left paddle shifter and drop to the lowest permissible gear. Annoying to have to click down sequentially through an 8-speed. What was audi thinking?
