Hey,

Wondering what downpipes you guys are using. Custom, pre-made etc? If you went custom how much and what size did you get? I'm looking at 034's turbo to underneath the car downpipe :http://store.034motorsport.com/downpipe-3-audi-b5-1-8t-stock-fitment.html.

Are there any recommendation for a downpipe for a stock location turbo?

Thanks,

One thing you ought to keep in mind here, most (if not all) aftermarket downpipes are designed around Quattro.
The only "significant" difference for you will be a different transmission hangar location. For example, the Milltek 2.5" downpipe needed the hangar cut to fit on my '98.5 1.8TM, but now I'm using the same downpipe on my 2001.5 1.8TQM (and wishing I hadn't cut the hangar...).

Back when I bought mine, Milltek was the cheapest aftermarket 2.5" option at $199 shipped, since I already had the 034 HFC (like you do). But this may no longer be a viable option. I don't see anything else that's close price-wise either.
This is the cheapest downpipe-only that I could find (free shipping, probably no tax for you):

If I didn't have the 034 HFC already and was starting over, I would probably pick the 034 3" downpipe you linked to with an added race cat.
Maybe you could see if 42 Draft Designs would be willing to sell you just the downpipe section of their exhaust system, for another potentially-cheap 3" option.

do you have a link to that?

Let me see if I can look it up.. I bought my Kit and everything for the build through the shop next door to me(usp motorsports) I had them source out all of the parts.

The thing is, when searching for a downpipe, it needs to match the manifold/turbo combination as well as exhaust. Many dp's will be specific to those parts, so I wouldn't go wasting money on a pipe that may not fit when it comes time to install. The best thing you can do is by everything as a kit so you know it will fit.

FWIW, I am using a 3inch ATP downpipe and cut of the three bolt flange and welded on a vband flange, but I also installed my exhaust myself and made everything fit.

Agreed. OP specified stock-location/fit downpipe, which is what my post is geared towards.

Yea. I am going for a GT28RS setup. I was thinking about doing a straight downpipe to exhaust. Also was planning on getting either a ATP or 034 exhaust mani.

dont bother with a high flow mani imo
they are a pain to install, the bolts like to back out and they dont provide much over stock.
Thats why i chose to keep my stock mani.

You could always just have a custom test pipe exhaust bent for a reasonable price.

I dunno if FrankenTurbo sells their manifold separately, but would that be another option for you? Historically ATP and 034 manifolds have cracked, and I can't recall having read about a single cracked FT manifold.

I had one custom made in 2.5" mated to 2.75" resonated Milltek exhaust. Cost was $150 installed, and I supply the parts. Used that same downpipe for stage one with bolt ons, GT2871R and now CT2 5152 Triplex. Will upgrade to 3" next year hopefully.

On Labree HFC when stage one with bolt ons

On ER downpipe for PSI Concept manifold that ran a GT2871R

On RAI downpipe for their Red Label kit ran on CT2 5152 Triplex (current setup on car)

im about to do my exhaust im just getting a 80$ ebay test pipe http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/231377195194?lpid=82 and go to the muffler shop and get 3in straight piped eventually I will get a good muffler but I can get the straight piped exhaust for like 150$ including the test pipe I just don't see a point in spending 800$ on exhaust
