2005.5 A4, 133k. I have no clue if the suspension is original or not, I'm going to assume it is original.

At low speed, when turning the wheel (and even when stopped) there is a distinct creaking noise coming from the front. I checked the PS fluid. It was at the "MIN" line, so I put some in to the MAX line but that changed nothing (it really did not sound like it was coming from the pump anyway). The noise does not seem to come from under the hood.

Is it safe to assume the control arms need to be replaced? I have not had a chance to put it up in the air and wiggle the hub to see if anything moves.

Thanks

That could be any rubber suspension bushing going bad.

Since the weather is getting colder you will start to hear some of the faint noises from bushing associated with steering and control arms. New York got hit with few dew points and in the morning, I can always hear creaking noises once I turn the wheel while during summer never heard that. Or as kegobeer said bushing going bad.

I have the same problem. I read in a thread a while back about the steering rack bolts coming loose and making the noise. Check the bolt under the battery.

Same issue when the temperature drops. Will be refreshing the suspension soon, but in the meantime I used some spray lithium grease on all the bushings. Helped a lot. No noise since.

It did start when the temperature dropped. When I picked it up last Friday, I did not hear anything. It was 20°F overnight and parked outside so.....
