My 06 ar 2.0t avants tail lights keep coming back onnafter ive shut the car off and locked it.

Ice never seen them come back on but when I look out the house window they are on again. I lock it they go off, I. Watch for a few minutes, go away, come back, and they're on again.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be? I'd hate to drain my battery.

Your baby misses you. Try leaving it less.

Are you sure it's JUST your tails that are on and it's not just your coming home lights? My fogs and tails stay on after the car is locked for a few minutes.

So I was thinking the same thing. If it's only the tail lights, sounds like something funky in the wiring. Does your avant have that option?

This happened on my old Accord. There was a switch on the brake pedal that was broken. The A4 probably has something similar.

Im sure it's not my coming home lights. My wife noticd them on early on the morning way way after coming home. I think ot might be a bad break light switch. Atleast that's what I'm hoping. I'm out of town though and won't be able to get t fixed atleast till Monday.

If its not the coming home lights then it is most likely the brake lamp switch is defective.

Back in the old days when VW had a recalls on the brake lamp switches, I used to remember coming to work in the morning and see and rows of cars in for service with the brake lights stuck on all night.

This would definitely support my suspicions.

It's a bad break light switch - easy fix.

I had the same problem, I didn't know what the hell was draining my battery, or if I had a defective battery, so I replaced my battery and it still kept dying.

so one day i noticed my break lights stayed on after going back to my car 2 hours later.

And it was the break light switch.

Just replaced my brake light switch last week due to this same exact problem. It will take you less than 5 mins to fix, you just unplug then turn the switch under the brake pedal to remove it.

This is good to hear. Im having my timing belt serviced Monday amd the VW dealership is down the street from there so I can pickup the part after picking up the car.
