Thanks! See you own a Saab that was what I had before my Audi. I've thought about getting another one.

Thanks! See you own a Saab that was what I had before my Audi. I've thought about getting another one.

Yeah it's basically my wife's car but I like it too. Had a boost controller on it for a while (since they limit boost in 1st and 2nd on that model) but I took it off. It's peppy for what it is. 210 hp and 220 torque but it's super laggy out of the hole and it heat soaks really bad when it's warm (I'm in AZ so this is often). I think it would pull on my A4 from a roll at the moment but that's not saying much. They are nice and I have a couple of friends that are Saab enthusiasts so it made it much easier to buy it. They are really resourceful and won't hesitate to help with any type of work.

It has been really reliable too. I've owned it for 45K miles and have only put coil packs in it. They are stupid expensive though! I paid almost $100.00 a pop for them! Besides that the car has been flawless and has 117K on it now.

What year/model would you be interested in?

Here is mine:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b201/chazbrdr/20130816_074841.jpg (http://s20.photobucket.com/user/chazbrdr/media/20130816_074841.jpg.html)
I thought about throwing the 9-3 Aero wheels on it (17") but I won't be keeping it much longer since we are pregnant with our third child (Minivan time lol).

I had a 2000 9-5 V6 for 2.5 years. It was my first car and never had an issue with it. Sold it with 170,000+ miles on it. It was also tuned by Brew City Boost.

If I was to get another I would get a 2003+ 9-3 Sedan. I don't like the newer style Saabs. 03 is when they started making the 9-3's different than the earlier years.

Alright some updates: custom 2.5'' turbo back exhaust completed. 034 snub mount arrived today, waiting on my eBay short shifter, and going to try out some Nokya Arctic White H7 bulbs for my foglights.

Probably going to order the JHM shift linkage and bushings so when I do the short shifter I will do those two things as well.

Last but not least 18psi APR stage 2 tune purchased from a member.

Anything else I should do/upgrade let me know, nows the time! I'm stockpiling parts!

They look pretty good like that! I'd personally keep it classy with black, or maybe white because rallycar. [:)]

What engine bay parts do you think you'd paint?

You're good, yes anthracite grey. I do actually think I'm going to keep them this color after some more though.

Engine cover, air box cover, and Im probably going to get a Passat cover that covers some of the right side of the engine bay.

I get some weird backfire/misfire under WOT, first noticed it when I got my full exhaust last week. I'm not sure why it would start doing it now. I am NOT running the correct plugs for a tuned car and I just remembered that yesterday but still never did this before. (At least I do not ever remember putting in the correct plugs) New plugs should be here tomorrow. So hoping that it will fix the problem.

More exciting news, I ordered the JHM solid bushings and shift linkage! As well as an RS4 honeycomb style grill.

Word of advise, use a nylon washer between the JHM stabiliser bar bushings and tranny. It will reduce in cabin noise that would have otherwise resonated all the way to your cabin by the shifter from the transmission like a stethoscope. I personally just made a rubber washer. But a cheap nylon one from Home Depot would have been better.

I highly doubt I would be able to hear it over my exhaust haha, but okay. Seeing as how I work there that will be an easy pick up. Thanks.

Can confirm increased transmission noise with the JHM delrin bushing. Audible in all gears, almost sounds like a supercharger whine. I've gotten used to it by now, but I may try putting a plastic/rubber washer in there.

I gave him the warning [cool]

Depending on condition of transmission would determine the outcome (what noise and how audible).

Correct spark plugs arrived today as well as my eBay short shifter. I really want to install it right away but I'm going to wait until I install my JHM shift parts, which who knows when that will be since it 20 degrees outside.

Any tips/tricks for when I do the shifter?

Turbo_B5
01-16-2015, 08:58 PM
Make alignment marks before disassembly for an easy reassemble. and Make sure you can find 1-2 gear easily, I chipped my 2nd gear shifting half way into 2nd resulting in needing a new transmission. (cause it was hard to get it into gear)

Use a "magnet on a stick" to remove and drop back in the bolt that holds the shifter to shift arm. Don't be afraid to pull the center console apart to give you more working room, though you're facelift, so you have a much larger work area just by removing the shifter cover than prefacelifts do.

I always wondered why people had trouble installing short shifters, never occurred to me prefacelift has less room. [o_o]

bought probably the most expensive spray paint I've ever seen for my engine bay @ $13 A can. Dupli color metal specks in the red shade as well as some basic black to restore some faded plastic like the lower grill and fog light surrounds.

Once again I have to wait since its way to cold to spray paint (not for me, for the paint) it's going to drive me crazy. I've tried spray painting/plasti dipping in the cold and it always ends up looking like complete crap.

Next I Need to find a decent HID kit. Thinking krauto but there are lots of complaints on his website of people not receiving what they have ordered. Found his FB page and messaged him, no reply yet.

ray4624

try VVME
ive heard good things about them
some people on here will tell you to retrofit some new lenses and get 300 dollar bubls etc....but for most people it really makes no difference.
I am perfectly happy with me Depo ecodes and their ebay HID kit that they came with. Its been 3 years without an issue "knocks on wood"

adam044
01-19-2015, 05:01 PM
I'll look at them thanks. not looking to spend anywhere close to $300. Under $100, preferably about $60-80.

What watt and k do you run? I'm going 55w probably 6000k possibly 8000k. Really like the look of the 8k but don't think the visibility would be awesome.

ray4624
01-19-2015, 05:10 PM
I run 35w 5000k. I would like to go to 4300k as they are a bit to blue for my liking currently
I had 8k before and they looked way to rice. PLus they made everyones license plate blue which in mass means they are a cop...that was a huge pain in the ass.
im not sure but some have said the 55w will melt the housings.

adam044
01-19-2015, 05:23 PM
Yeah I am a little afraid of melting with 55w. I guess I should go with 35w to be safe. Really 5k is too blue? I assume even though they are 35w the difference from stock is substantial.

ray4624
01-19-2015, 05:36 PM
personally, i do not like them.
They are leaps and bounds better then the 8k but i would like them just a tad whiter.

Like $56 actually. Free shipping & lifetime warranty. Very close to ordering them. 6k version.

Tack on another $56.99 to the 1k I've already spent this month on parts. Ordered from krauto, 6k.

So first time going WOT since I put in the correct spark plugs and.... Awesome news. Hit 18 PSI and no stutter or misfires like it was doing before with the old plugs. Very happy, very happy with the APR tune as well.

New RS4 style grill came today as well, hopefully will snap that in tomorrow. Still waiting for my JHM parts, they should have been here Saturday but I "missed" (mail man never got out of his truck to ring or knock on the door because I was home all day) the delivery because you have to sign for it for some odd reason. Rescheduled the delivery for Tuesday and now it is Wednesday with no sign of it still. I'm sure it will come tomorrow the day I'm not home.

Relating to the engine cover does anyone have one of the screws I coud have? I dropped one in bay somewhere so it's gone forever as far as I'm concerned.

I like all the wires that the engine covers hides and I like the Audi rings under it as well. Don't know why but just do.

.75 cents plus $8 for shipping no doubt. I'll have to check the PNP yard, I also lost a screw that holds the air intake to the car.

Yes I did. That was before I knew about the KR Auto kit though. I think the kit makes sense to get, everything in one package + the backup lights is a good deal.

Hmm you're right I haven't taken any pictures of the headlights. I'll try and get some tomorrow or whenever it stops snowing. I got the 5000k HIDs so they are white, I wanted the 6000k for some blue tint but he was sold out at the time. I'll get 6000k one day.

putting 7000k in your fog lights are counterproductive. you will do more harm than good if actually "driving in fog". the best lights for fog are always 2500k-3000k halogen bulbs, never H.I.D.'s(no matter the kelvin).

Not with 7000k fog lights. They aren't HIDs otherwise I would agree. 7000k should be very blue and these are nothing like that, As you can see in the picture they look identical to my headlights which are 5000k.

I have 5000k HID fogs. I wouldn't say they blind traffic ahead of me. They look great and I noticed a huge improvement over my stock halogen fogs. I did research and found that fogs should be lower k (2500-3000k like GrapeBandit said) for better performance visually but from personal experience I am able to see much better and wider with 5000k HID fogs. It was like night and day once I installed the HID fogs.. never thought it would make that big of a difference.

Nice build though. Clean ride and I definitely like the headlight fog light set up.

Personally I think it looks horrid unless you have a bunch of cash and can buy the expensive stuff, and go on bags and put the compressor on it. Otherwise it looks like you are too broke to maintain a car so you went full retard and "Well I got some wood here, I bet that shit will work right there in dat trunk yo"

Haha fair enough. If I was to ever do something like that I would do it with good wood and not just slap it in there. Probably would never do it but I just saw some pictures and thought it looked cool.

When I brought my car into the shop last time I happened to fill it up and my mechanic noticed a little gas leaking down the tank. He couldn't see where it was coming from though.

Months before whenever I would fill up my car/garage would smell strongly of gas and could never figure out why. Well months later I have the answer. It never leaked enough for the gas gauge to drop or anything like that and would still get as high as 28 MPG so it's a very small leak. I hate not being able to fill up though. I always top off to the nearest dollar fiy.

I replaced my fuel pump not too long ago, all it takes is removing your carpet in the trunk and 3 phillips head screws to see if any fuel is leaking out the top of the tank. Sounds to me the rubber gasket is seated incorrectly.

15mm front spacers and 20mm rear spacers arrived today. Feel and look like great quality.

Paint question for you guys. On my passenger side front door the clear coat is flaking off. I currently have clear packing tape over the missing clear coat so dirt/water stays out from under it and also so it stop coming off. In some lights it's hardly noticeable, but I know it's there and it bothers the hell out of me. I feel that I could peel the entire clear coat off from the door but then what can I do? The paint is perfect underneath. Can I buy clear coat to redo the door or would it look like shit or what? I've never don't anything with paint. Any help would be awesome.

For example that pic up there^^ there packing tape on the passenger door, can't even notice really.

Yep, most wheel cleaners will eat right through dip. You gotta remember wheels are metal and tires are thick reinforced rubber, plast dip is thin and fragile in conparsion. I've used the dipyoucar stuff and it really works, and you can dilute it 2:1 so it costs roughly the same as other cleaners

Im going to dip my car before the end of July. Thinking a blue or I've always liked red cars. I want to do some metalizer or flake but it's like an extra $100 so idk.

Figured I can dip my entire car for around $400 which is much less than it would be to fix my peeling clear coat on the door (which currently has packing tape over it) and the dent/peeling clear coat on my bumper.

My biggest worry is having something tear or rip like a week after I do it, even though I've seen how strong it is. I hope it can last multiple years. At least 2.

I've always figured it was around 1k, but I suppose that's including labor.

So I ordered the flex blue plasti dip and everything to dip the car, came to $350 with the 20% off this weekend. Decided I just wanted a matte finish to start, figured I can always gloss or pearl over what I lay down

Dip will be here tomorrow, prepare yourself's for a new Audi.

Now that I think of it that dent on my bumper may be an issue when I go to dip it. May not bond well. Im also going to have to remove the clear packing tape from my passenger side door which is going to rip off even more clear coat now. Oh well.

Wash it extremely well, but no wax. Are you doing it yourself or having a pro do it?

How so? Theres different peelings, mine is coming off clean, so there is just bare paint under it. Are you saying you can see ridges from where the clear coat is higher than the paint?

I would just wet sand the peeling panels.

Its just a small part on the passenger door, like the size of 2 dollar bills but together. And the bumper too I guess.

Looked great in pictures, but not up to my standards in person. I like my silver/black glossy look so much better than the matte dip. I like my car just how it is. And now that I don't have anymore spots of clear coat peeling I see myself never selling it. I had lost my love for the car when it was dipped, it was just blah to me.

Panzer skid plate probably saved me from about 4 oil pans this weekend on a trip up to Maine.

First time I've actually scraped hard enough to leave marks on the plate. Terrible noise when it happens.

Re-dipped the wheels today, same color so nothing new to really see. They were in okay condition, had some staining from the salt over the winter but thats really it. They just looked worn. I have the dip spray and dip cleaner now though so these should last until I decide to remove it.
