View Full Version : Jack pads for the A4
I've always wondered where to jack from when lifting the car. I've avoided using the pinch weld, I've worked on a fair amount of a4's and seen how crushed the pinch welds get when you jack the car from there.
I decided to stick the jack behind the pinch weld, and jack up from there since it was a sturdier point and had more surface area. And I've always seen underneath the car there are a set of holes that I had no clue what they were for.
Turns out they are Jack pad adapter holes.

How do you use those adapters with stands like these:

You still hold the car by the pinch rail, but in jacking it up, you use these jack pads to not damage the pinch weld.

I've been using the pinch weld, but I add a piece of 1" thick high density foam to the top of my jack. I also make sure I rotate the jack pad, so the areas that stick up don't hit the pinch weld.
Do we not have any of the square block style pads that go around the pinch weld?

OEM B7 RS4 jack pads are worth every penny. We had similar discussion in our section just recently.

I actually put my jack stands under the subframe bolts instead of on the pinch welds or a jack pad spot. Why? because 9/10 times Im working on something that doesn't require those bolts ever being touched. The bolts are direct points of support to the car's entire unibody, and thus are really strong
The only exception is like when i was swapping out my rear springs - for that I jacked the car up from the rear and put the stands at the pinch welds.

Another idea for the jack (haven't tried for jack stands -- just use wood) is used hockey pucks. Buy them locally at sports store for a whole $1! Work great.
