A few moths ago I posted about a strange rattle like noise while turning http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=610491. Since then I have tried everything to find the problem. I have pulled a broken exhaust mount that was by the down pipe.....not fixed. I have pulled the tire and gone under the car on numerous occasions and shaken, rattled and tried to find every and anything that might make the noise. I have posted videos but it's hard to hear the sound which I have now decided it's a vibration almost like the body on the frame. It feels like it's under the brake pedal and it only happens when the car is cold after a few turns and about 2 min of driving it's gone. It use to be only with right turns and now it's getting to be on start up and driving of any kind but mainly right turns. Today I was under the car again and found this.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/12/7c79839381a52da0543004d2404e6390.jpg
The top right side of the drivers motor mount was clean.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/12/8c9690f4f04b5c8e5a2b4ed9827a7684.jpg
But the bottom or left side closest to the motor was covered in dust that had stuck to oil or something. My motor doesn't leak and there is nothing over that side to drip onto the mount. I also noticed some light redish fluid on the bottom a armhttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/12/2b18d5fc5388a456d447120e6bc6684c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/12/553ae1f0302d1e30010a78e7c4ed7e4c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/12/00c9abd5ba791391249b73cc11a2c869.jpg as well as the sway bar area and on the undercarriage. All this stuff is under the belly pan so I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the road. I'm starting to wonder if it's my driver side motor mount that died. Does anyone know what color the fluid is inside out mounts? Second can anyone give me an idea why cold it makes the noise but warm it doesn't. Right now all I can think is it's the motor mount but I know a lot of you that have more knowledge with them than I do. I know they are a common failure issue and most go to the RS4 or one of the multiple aftermarket makers. If it is the motor mount should I just buy two and do them both or can I just get one? Any info would be great or ideas thanks.

Look directly at the underside of your motormounts and you'll see dried relish purple crap encrusted like they've been on the rag.

If that's not there than its possible your thermostat had a little leak. That happens sometimes in sudden cold weather changes.

Your mount is toast. It should not be deflated like that. A good way to confirm is to rock the engine side to side. If it moves more then say a 1/4" then your mounts are definitely toast. I suggest getting 034 street density mounts. They work good.

On second look the spray pattern is coming from outside and up into the wheel well. This is especially noticeable in your third pic. If it was a coolant it would've pooled in your plastic belly cover. Motor mounts ooze they don't explode.

Looks like your motor mount just went splash.. That fluid is red/purple.
Have you checked power steering fluid? So youre not sucking in air/got a leak? Could be pulling air into the rack and make noises..

Yeah. you need a motor mount anyways so you might as well replace it. Although I have seen mounts much worse!

Thanks guys I think it's the mount. There was no fluid on the belly pan and the steering is not the issue it only makes the noise when cold the steering is perfect no squeaks or turning issues its a vibration noise that is not felt in the steering wheel at all. I will order the mounts today and see if it fixes the issue.

Interested too about how a motor mount go bad. But call me suspicious, i dont see a purple-ish color like people say it will leak from the motor mount. From one of the first picture, it almost like you oil filter drain cap is wet and it might have spill oil while driving.

The cap is always a little wet the inner seal on those is not great. The fluid is clearly redish in person and if it were the oil filter I would have some on the belly pan which is bone dry. I ordered two new mounts and we will see if it fixes the issue.

I looked around a little bit but went with the 034 street density and bought them through JHM. They were the same price as the 034 website through JHM and almost everyone has bad reviews about 034 customer service. It seems like a vast majority of the members have them in either street or track denaity and like them. I should have them today and I will put them on this weekend or next week and report back about the results.

I FOUND THE NOISE......... So after all this time and even checking the exhaust before I found the noise. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/22/4e491cebcc7695ed64678e532401eeef.jpg this exhaust bracket that mounts to the tranny broke about the time I heard the noise start. However I went under the car and couldn't recreate the noise and now I know why. This bracket barely hold the exhaust away from the tranny support and once the car is warm the exhaust pipe expands and fully touches the support stopping the noise. I have had the issue for 2 months but since it was warmer in the summer my exhaust stayed hotter longer and the noise went away quicker. So no matter what I banged on or shook even with the cold car the hot temps kept the metal expanded enough to stop the noise. Neither one of my mounts was broken but since they are liquid filled the motor moved more and now with the 034 solid mounts there is less movement. So even without the bracket fixed the noise is now gone. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/22/180cafc0266d6843942e8c24a1fff7bd.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/22/4360559aaafe2565b486bc1f05087012.jpg This is how close the exhaust was before the new mounts when I had the noise for a minute of driving. Now even in the cold there has not been any noises for the last 24 hours with any type of driving. Thanks for all the help and to Jake at JHM for the quick parts and help I ordered the parts at 2 p.m. And the following day I had the part by 10 a.m.
