View Full Version : Short shifter: JHM vs Meisterwerk?

For a daily driver.

I've decided I can't take the slop in the stock shifter any longer. Same shifter from an A4, made to be easy to use. Audi should have upgraded the shifter in this car but cost cutting wins.

Leaning toward the JHM. Solid piece, no reports of difficulty with install. Plus no maintenance required.

MW seems to have more features, adjustable height and throw length. But I really just want something that will shift more precisely without generating any more problems.

I really want to try the Roc Euro kit!!!! I have the JHM and it performs flawlessly, since day one, great for a daily. I considered going with the MW for all the adjustments, but after a week you just get used to whatever you have.

We have been in the shifter market since day one. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know!

My EC Meisterwerk has been a joy since day one. Install was perfect and absolutely no issues on shortest throw and medium height.

Never tried the JHM...

I've had both. The Meisterwerk is superior. The JHM seemed like it loosened up over time, and basically retains the stock design but makes the throw shorter and replaces everything plastic with metal. The Meisterwerk addresses all the weak points with the stock shifter, uses a much beefier piece to attach to the linkage that won't flex, has a shorter throw at the shortest setting, and is more adjustable. It feels almost gated and is super precise.

Apples and oranges, my friend. Actually, more like caviar and potato chips. I've owned both. Currently have the EC Meisterwerk. Far more adjustability to achieve the combination of throw length/knob height/shift effort that suits you, and always smooth like butter. Not to say the JHM doesn't get the job done, but like many things in life: you get what you pay for. I'd say both are priced fairly for the value they provide. Choose accordingly...

Get the EC short shifter AND the 034 Motorsport transmission mount and you'll have faster, tighter precision shifts every time. Such a sweet setup.

I have the Roc Euro in my car - it's been about three weeks now. Nice short throws like I had in my 330i ZHP. For the price it can't be beat IMO.

+1 to above. Just installed the Roc Euro / Strat kit. Great feelings shifts that are certainly a lot shorter. Like Bill said, can't beat it for the money.

I have the JHM and have tested out 2 MW cars.

I spent $70 for my JHM, and it is almost $500 to get the MW into Canada. So keep that in mind for my comparison.

Without lowering the shifter height on the MW, they feel very similar in throw. The MW has less wiggle to it though, so a bit tighter feel.

They huge improvement with either is that the reverse spring is stiffer. No more 3-2 downshifts where the reverse gate interferes briefly when I'm shifting hard. It is not blocked out unless I push down hard deliberately for reverse.

I have the MW short shifter and it is amazing. The quality is unmatched and the feel is great. I have it on the shortest (or almost the shortest) height and it feels so much better. The throws are so quick/short and very solid, and if you've driven other 'real' sports car (like a 911 for example) then you'll appreciate how the shifter doesn't feel so "soft" or "loose" or whatever... the shifting feels more like a sports car in my opinion.

That said, I haven't tried to JHM or RocEuro so I can't speak to those. I would spend the money on the MW again without hesitation; I just wish I had gotten it sooner. Hope that helps, although I basically repeated what's already been said above [up]
