View Full Version : How many currently run their B7 without any error codes

This is not a scientific poll but I was wondering if I'm one of the few or one of the many running my car for several months with error codes. I seems like, soon after you fix one thing another breaks and it pretty difficult to run the car error free, for long period unless you throw quite a bit of money in it.

There's preventative and reactive maintenance. Depends on what type of owner you are more than anything.

That depends on what you mean by "error codes". For instance, one of my aftermarket parts requires I code the radio incorrectly in order to function. So that always pops up on a scan. Other than that though, my car rarely gives me issues (I will occasionally get a CEL on WOT for the LPFP not being able to supply enough fuel pressure, but that clears by itself after a bit of driving).

Well what about everyone that would have errors if it weren't for spacers and/or tunes?

I roll around with errors all day long for being low lol.
The truth of engineering.
my car has 0 CEL's! and its stage 3!
mostly because Maestro removes them all lol

I have run my car error free since I've owned it (1 year). I've only gotten 2 errors so far, one for my thermostat and one for a DRL bulb socket that was still an old revision.
I get the boost error every once in a while when I am running high RPMs at full throttle, but it goes away after a month.

Then I would have a near-stock car that wasn't tuned, and I wouldn't have the current wheels I have without spacers [cool]

I have that feeling he meant o2 spacers, just a feeling.

I bought the car with the thermostat check engine so i don't really count that one lol and a DRL socket is extremely minimal when talking about error codes over 12 month period

Sorry, i saw this at like 6 am, but was busy at work all day.
I replaced everything on the fuel system to no avail. Replaced lpfp 2x, fuel filter, hpfp, fuel rail valve, g410 low pressure sensor. The lpfp was the last thing to be replaced, so assumed that fixed the issue, but immediately got the code back. 1000 miles on the new pump, and my car won't start for like 30 min in a parking lot across town one day. Sent my lpfp back to JHM who lovingly warranteed the pump, but noticed that there was a large amount of shit in the pump. My shop vacuum cleaned all the shit out of the fuel tank, replaced the lpfp with a 3rd one and no more code! Pretty sure i got fucked with the worst case scenario.

My hpfp was able to cover it up for the most part, but i would see lpfp pressure drop to around 2 bar on pulls, and duty cycle was super high at idle.

Only one code (P0089) back in 2011 - replaced the G41 Thrust Sensor and that was it. Audi later reimbursed amount. Owned the car new since Oct 2007 with currently 43,500 miles. I do all these to prevent having any type of 'light' popping up.
-Change Oil/Filter every 6000-7000 miles. Have a quart handy and fill in between 1500 miles, or as needed.
-Clean MAF every 12,000 miles
-Replace Air Filter every 12,000 miles and clean outer 'snow screen/filter'
-Replace Cabin Filter every 12,000 miles
-Replaced Diverter Valve (D Update) at 26,000 just for preventive maintenance.
-Replaced N75 Valve at 26,000 for preventive maintenance.
-Replaced PCV by dealer under extended program. No CEL needed because the PCV was whistling
-Replaced Spark Plugs at 27,000 miles (will repeat)
-Replaced IMRC, update 24T3, 24T4 at 33,000 miles by dealer under extended program. Again, no CEL.
-Check Tire pressure every 2 months/1000 miles, Set at 39 psi cold, 41-42 when hot. Max ps on tire is 51 psi and I go by the tire, NOT the sticker on the car. Better ride better fuel economy.

Wow, you do that much tire pressure huh? I usually go with 36, but wanted to go higher. Maybe not for my snows in winter, but definitely on my summers

^^Yeah, they ride nicer and I like how it feels, at least it is easier on my engine/transmission. But check your tires' rating before inflating.

Interesting, I always thought inflating past the sticker recommendation would lead you to overinflate the tire, and wear it away at the center of the tread.

^^Although the recommended psi rating is 36, but 39 is by no means anywhere near over-inflate considering that the max on my tires are 51 psi. Anything over that would be asking for trouble and you'll know you'd be out of the norm. I also noticed whenever I'm at 36 it feels mushy and tends to make the usual slight rubbery squeaks when turning - sort of like a mini skid. The car rides so much lighter and I don't feel the need for extra force on the accelerator -- in return, better fuel efficiency and again, less wear and tear. Knock on wood, but so far which probably explains the absent of any CEL.

Ditto. Higher pressure is also how some of those older VW diesel guys get 50-60 mpg on their longer trips. When I was throwing 19s on, the shop I bought the tires from recommended bumping up pressure to 40-42 psi to prevent premature wear.

I have the dipped headlights right now on the B7 A4. It's been annoying, but I've found a way for them to turn on and not give me any issues. I've been living with it for almost 2 years now. I'm almost ready to just go to halogens to not have to deal with it anymore.

No error codes currently or for the past 6 months however I have had the car for a little over a year and the only error code I have had has been for tire pressure however no check engine light.
I am VERY regular with servicing and preventative maintenance. This year I have done oil changes Trans service, diff service, Cam follower replacement, radiator flush, power steering flush, brake flush, coils, plugs and I have had some stuff replaced under warranty at the dealer (valve cover, radiator reservoir, PCV, Headlights, interior armrest cover)
The seat backing came off of the passenger side seat and I removed it and repaired it as well...
Bought with 47k and I have 65k now...They have been "primarily" trouble free miles! Not as trouble free as my ford escape........But still.....I love my Audi.

Audibot

I find the code normally associated with the thrust sensor only comes back when I got WOT, and having checked the LPFP pressure when I do so, it's really because it's dropping too low.
