I've seen enough boxsters with trashed engines to completely ignore that list.
One of them is in a friend's garage getting an LS installed to permanently fix the issue.

That's on the earlier models. How I know? I had it happen to me. They are quite reliable now.

is there a link to some article? I'd like to read it; intrigures me since a lot of the magazines gave the new IS350 F-Sports rave reviews in terms of performance and handling even more so than the 335i that this sort of surprises me since Toyota/Lexus seems to be their golden child.

This list is not about performance and handling, it's about reliability. You also need more than one year of data to give an opinion on reliability, so it may show up in a few years.

Agreed. Sedans (or even coupes) are not sports cars regardless of their 1/4 mile time or how fast they get around a track.

I had a 12 Civic Si before my S4 and it was a performance joke - maybe compared to other civics, but not very fast, 6 speed trans sucked and it had mushy handling and no grip at all. S4 is much more of a sporting vehicle but still not a sports car!

I am surprised the Corvette isn't on the list.

Civic Si? Miata? Might as well throw Tesla in there...great torque curve

I never thought of previous generations as quality leaders and didn't GM stop shipment of the latest generation for quality issues recently?

From a reliability standpoint it was always my understanding that they did very well. I had a Z06 that I beat the snot out of and it took it in stride. I could be wrong, but then again they put a Civic SI on the list, so I guess it depends on what you consider a sports car to understand what they are comparing it to. If compared to a Civic then maybe not, but compared to a Viper then I'd guess the Corvette would fare well.
Didn't hear anything about this latest gen, but I haven't been paying attention to it.

Becuase your boyfriend had one ?

Mini Cooper? Come on, neat little cars but notoriously bad on MX. Clearly this is only a poll on who likes their car. It's a car popularity contest, nothing more.

Consumer Reports put the S4, mini cooper, mustang, gti in as "sports cars?" Buffoons.

To Consumer reports , anything with a 0-60 time under six secs is a "sports car" . They no nothing about performance.

Not sure why you wouldn't. It does everything my old 370z did just as well or better (was that a sports car?) I guess if you want to dock it points for having a back seat that's fine but basically that puts the definition of "sports car" pretty narrow and not very useful.
I owned the Civic Si also and wouldn't classify it as a sports car because the capabilities are not really much above a typical Civic.

Ugh. You're hopeless. A Civic of any character is a car soccer moms buy and their teenage kid tries to get laid in. It's like the 2nd gen mustang, only that had rear wheel drive. Everyone thinks their Civic is a sports car until they actually drive a car that is.

Maybe they should just call them sporty cars. I think the S4 qualifies.

Miata is almost the definition of a sports car.
