I'm assuming not the stealership?

As luck would have it, I got a huge rock chip right in the front of my hood where the clear bra didn't protect it.

I'll need to get some touch up paint before the weather gets cold and the potential for snow arrives.

Fro that...probably best to just get the double paint pens (pigment and clear) from the dealership. They aren't really that expensive over other solutions

Nothing wrong with the dealership paint (except the price) just get a very fine paint brush and don't use the one that comes with the paint.

Dr. Colorchip is good also and you get more paint for the money, but you will still want to get a smaller brush for it and also comes with the paint leveler stuff that makes it a bit easier to blend it.

i've gotten several little chips like that on my bumper where the clearbra doesn't cover, and even scraped the lower lip on a low curb that destroyed the clearbra and scraped the paint off about 2" wide. Dr. Colorchip worked pretty well for all of it. The 2" scrape took a while longer and more coats to get it to look respectable, but it's a good purchase.

I'll also vouch for Dr. Colorchip. It was something like $40 for the kit which was well worth the general improvement in appearance of my black car that it provided. The "SealAct" paint leveler / sealer stuff is the key. If you're patient and carefully apply sufficient coats of touch-up to build the surface of the chip up above the surrounding paint, the SealAct stuff does a good job of allowing you to knock the touch-up paint down to the level of the surrounding paint.

Side note: I just had Xpel Ultimate clear bra applied to the front end of my car and was pretty disappointed with how much area around the edges it actually leaves exposed. I'm surprised it wasn't designed to wrap around the edges. In particular, on the fenders the film does not go all the way down to the edge of the wheel arch, and instead there is about a 1/8" gap from the edge of the film to the edge of the wheel arch. Kind of hokey because I can clearly see the line at the edge of the film. Does this sound like par for the course for anyone else with Xpel or other brands of clear bra installed? (Sorry for the thread derail)

Seems like Dr. Colorchip is the way to go.

I honestly didn't think about how much area around the edges were exposed because I never had a problem on my previous car (02 Volvo S60) for the 5-6 years I had the clear bra on. But I also think that that paper think paint on the Audi doesn't help any either.

Yeah, it just seems weird to me that the very leading edge of the hood, one of the most vulnerable areas on the car for road debris, is left unprotected. Seems to me that the film should be 1/4" longer so it can wrap around the edge and provide full coverage. I'll have to inspect mine later today because I don't recall if it wraps around or not. My opinion is that for the $1000+ pad to have the product applied, it ought to cover 100% of the areas I paid to have covered.

my installer told me that they COULD install it all the way to the edge, but they don't because it peels too easily when they do that, which just creates problems and more (unpaid warranty) work for them, so by policy, they don't do it and you're hard pressed to find anyone who does.

Credit Mops for the idea, but you can check with a local body shop to see if they are willing to mix up some fresh touch up paint for you. They should ask for your VIN, and call the dealer for the exact paint code. Good luck!

I think I paid 18 for mine about 2 weeks ago.
