Hey all, I'm new to the Audi world in just acquiring a 04 s4. I want to do an oil change on it immediately and am very curious to see what the opinions are on running this oil in these engines. I've read a few post in threads where people rant and rave about using Rotella T6 and a OEM Oil Filter but not from many actual B6 S4 owners/enthusiast who actual have experience with it. I've run it in my LSx powered vehicles before but I do know that everyone is very particular about the type of oil to run in these 4.2's. Obviously the price of Rotella T6 is amazing compared to the oils being up to Auid/OEM Standars(505 01, 502 00, 505 00) Motul, Lubro Moly, Pentosin and the run of the mill Castrol Euro Beld. Sorry about the pharagraph but just really wondering what the truth is on the T6.

Yo!
So I don't have an S4, but an S6, and I use Rotella. The same viscosity, I think they advertise it for diesels. So far so good after 2 changes. It is a bit thicker than some of the other sythetics, but that is why I am running it. I noticed my oil temps came up a hair on the gauge. But I was expecting that with this particular oil, having read that is it a bit thicker (more viscous). There are many C5 guys running it in there 4.2's, as well as I have seen some RS6 guys using it as well. My logic was the tid bit more viscous the Rotella offers probably offers a bit more protection in the most extreme conditions. Otherwise, I am with you in that you cannot beat the price. I run OEM or Mann filters only for this car.
Side note: I live at 6200ft and it is cold here right now. I do notice the Rotella takes longer to warm up than Mobil 1 (previous oil). no biggie, as I just start the car 2 minutes earlier now...
Hope this helps!
Josh
PS I forgot to mention I used this on my STi's previous to owning this Audi. Always was clean and fresh when I changed it. Worked well in the flat 4's as well...

It is the choice amongst subaru guys as it has greater zinc and phosphurous content compared to most other oils.
I use it too, and my high mileage S6 4.2 seems to burn very little oil since I switched to it.
