Last week, my dealer installed the update airbag software.
I could be deceiving myself, but the steering now feels imprecise.
It only happens at highway speed. I drove one evening in the rain and it kept feeling like I was driving in and out of ruts.
It didn't feel sure footed.
Prior to the software change, I never experienced handling issues like this.
Dealer reports the software didn't change anything but the electronics related to the airbag.
Are others seeing performance changes resulting from the recall software?

Oh god, not this again. I have a 2013 and never really had the issues so well documented on this forum. I was planning on getting this update for the airbag at my service appointment. Maybe I'll hold out now.

Yes, to your question of model year. I have a 2014.

Same here. Not a single steering issue so I've been avoiding the steering update. Looks like I'll have to avoid this one too for a while.
Is it possible that OP and others who answered received both the airbag and steering updates while in for service?

I never had severe steering problems either and am scheduled to get this update on Saturday (already got steering update long ago). Like others after the steering update I noticed Dynamic wasn't as tight but I guess I got used to it.
Guys with problems following update: did you have previously get steering update; are you in warm or cold climate; do you have dynamic steering (the one that comes with adaptive cruis control)?
Hard to think about skipping this one IMO - potentially affects air bag deployment.

Call me extremely skeptical that an update to the ABS and/or airbag control module affected the steering. Placebo effect++

Did this update change anyone's VAGCOM settings. I have a number of things altered and wonder if this would take settings back to stock?
Thx

Sounds like the typical MY13 steering issues... brutal! Hopefully the airbag update does not revert steering update back to v1...

If there is anything to this, I wonder if it's being experienced by people who previously did not have the steering update (48k8). This airbag update may be inclusive of any prior updates that were hanging out there (including steering). If that's the case, some folks have reported a change in steering feel between comfort and dynamic after they received the most recent steering update version. Clear as mud?

Just got my car back from the dealer. They applied the airbag campaign, and i had the steering update done prior. I am in a 2013.
I also got upgraded to stage 2 apr also!! Will report steering feel after a couple more miles.

I have a 2014 with adaptive cruise (thus the truly dynamic steering). Had my update for the airbag recall done late last month and have not noticed any difference in handling/steering.
I will say though that the tech that did it turned my headlights from auto to off, and after that the headlights would stay on when on "auto" even in bright daylight, with some funky things happening to the speedometer/tachometer backlight. Called my service rep who called Audi and they said the the airbag software recall does not do ANYTHING to any other electronics/settings.
After a couple of drives my headlights reverted to normal, but it was pretty weird.

Steering issues aside, this is a major safety issue if you don't take it in. Airbags not deploying in an accident is serious.

my inbound 2015 s4 had recall for airbag done at the port. It no longer shows up at myaudi as requiring anything. Car is a dealer now, should be ready for test drive Friday and pickup Saturday if all goes well!

Got mine done this morning - just couldn't see waiting for an air bag-related recall. I noticed no difference in steering on the ride home and I tried both Comfort and Dynamic on city streets, highway and suburbs. I have a lot of driving next week and will report back if I notice any difference I didn't notice today. (Took about 35 minutes with no car wash.)

Anyone get this done while tuned? Any conversation with the SA about whether the ECU checksum was performed? Any TD1 status updates because of this?

+1 on this. Anyone?
I went stage 2+ after the airbag recall and my steering is actually tracking straight now. I had issues with the steering when the ECU was stock. The tune fixed my steering issue that I had, which is weird?

I had mine updated, and it wiped out all of my VAGCOM tweaks, including turning the DSR back on. So yes, the steering felt weird again. I had to reprogram everything back using the VAGCOM software and turned DSR back off again.
I guess for those posting above that didn't feel the difference before or after, maybe due to the fact that never had the DSR option turned off, so the steering feel stays the same for them. These cars are terrible to drive with that DSR steering feature turned on. Night and day!

Interesting, so I guess they probably did scan all the modules. I have DSR disabled and it creates some fault codes in other modules, so it makes sense that they would want everything initialized the same before flashing. Bummer...will probably require a flash back to stock to ensure TD1 doesn't happen. Anyone else have any experience with this?

How long did the service for the recall take? Sounds like it should be a pretty quick one.

They should be able to do it while you wait.

Just had the update to software done today. Haven't noticed anything car acts exactly as it did before the flash. How would an airbag flash have anything to do with your steering.

Just had the airbag software update done yesterday. I waited a little over an hour but also had the start/stop button replaced. Have driven about 30 miles since then and haven't noticed any difference in the way the car drives. I keep it in dynamic mode all the time. I was told it's just a software update for the airbag and nothing else. On a positive note, I got a cool looking start/stop button. It has the red surround. Didn't expect that but I like it.

Got this done today as well. Only took about 30-45 min total. Also my vag-com mods were not impacted by the update. Someone above said they lost theirs so YMMV.

would be interested in knowing how you got the new start/stop button under warranty?

The silver coating was wearing off on some of the letters. During a previous visit to the dealer I casually mentioned it to my service adviser. He said he would order me a new one under warranty. I didn't even ask for it but I'll take it. When he told he would order me a new one I asked if I could get the red one. He asked the parts guy who told him it had a different plug. Well, I guess it has the same plug because I was surprised to see the red one when I got my car back. No complaints here.
