I recently bought a 2001 A6 Quattro. It had the check engine light come on a week or so later with 16XXX alerts for the catalyst system bank 1 and bank 2 coming up (16804PO420/16814PO430). Does anyone know if this is for the if bank one and 2 refer to the O2 sensors in the rear (left and right)? The catalyst system warning said "too less", which I'm assuming the air/gas mixture is too lean? Could this also be related to a bad fuel filter?
The mechanic I took it to assumed that it was the two rear O2 sensors, but I just wanted to be sure. He quoted me a little over $500, about $180 per O2 sensor plus 1.4 hours labor. Sounds high. Does anyone recommend buying the 4-wire sensors and having a mechanic wire those up? Or have a recommendation for a good, reliable, affordable indy mech. in LA?
Thanks!
Keith
