View Full Version : Thinking about buying an 07 S6

couple questions...

What should i pay for an S6 in the 50k-70k mile range?

What should I look out for? Most common issues?

How is the DRC holding up in this car and did/does it have a recall like the RS4 had?

Most common issue and repair will be Carbon build-up especially at that mileage that you are looking at you will have to be ready to dish out about $1000. Unlike the C5 RS6 and the RS4 the S6 does not have that junk DRC suspension just regular shocks and springs so no issues there. Engine is pretty solid does not burn oil or have tensioner problems like some other Audi models. Just be ready to have deep pockets for repairs, This Engine is crammed in there so any major repair will cost $$$ (like O2Sensors Starter Alternator...)

so the V10 has the Carbon build up as well??

Sounds like a sweet ride. I don't have much input on the S6 but recently just bought an A6 with the 4.2L V8 and absolutely love it. I wish I could have afforded an S6. Have fun and remember, anything can be fixed with enough time and patience.

they are not as bad as RS4's which need to be done every 20-30K miles but V10's could be as bad as 20k miles or as good as 80k. I bought my S6 last month 50k miles and after 2 weeks of driving it decided to do a full tune up (air cabin fuel filter plugs and gaskets) and decided to do the Carbon Cleaning, this is what I had

wow - yeah thats bad... well i have an RS4 with 33k miles that hasn't been done yet with no real feel of any power loss or hesitation... probably will get done when the car goes in for coilovers, rotors and pads.

well im glad i asked this question so now i know to ask the dealer if the CC has been done lately.

As covered above, carbon buildup is the main "niggling" issue. No DRC to contend with so no worries there. Values are scattered about - anywhere from mid $30k's (~50k miles) to low $20k's (70k miles), obviously depending on year, condition, etc. Coventry Motorcars in CT has a clean silver '08 with 45k miles, $32k (for reference).

Seems like every couple weeks there is a new person looking for an S6.

My valves looked pretty much like Andre's when they checked recently. I just purchased the car, so I have no idea how long it took to build up.

Make sure you check out my C6 S6 v10 Info Dump (link in my sig) that I created to gather the straight facts on these awesome machines.

BTW, if you get one, make sure it has the sport seats, and not the comfort. Carbon trim is a nice touch, but can be added later for $500-$800.

Good luck and post some pics once you get your hands on one.

and if you are looking for an exhaust after purchase, I have a Milltek for sale in the Classifieds.

I'm about to sell my '07 S6. I'd have to say that as long as you have a warranty, and a carbon clean can be arranged or already done, you should be good to go.
