View Full Version : MMI 3G+ Conversion done, now Nav is s-l-o-w and Google Earth stalls

I did the 3G+ Goggle map conversion earlier this week and almost everything works.
Before I had the CP (component protection) removed, navigation worked fine, including speaking commands.
I had CP done and I am working out all the bugs. Audi Connect works, data and wifi all work fine too (and of course all music functions)....that's the good news!
Navigation is not working and is very slow. When I press a button to enter something, there is a several minute delay before the selection is active (even entering in a city letter by letter takes a long while). Speaking commands won't work because of the delay. If I restart GEMMI in the green screen, Google Earth will then be highlighted as an option in the MMI settings, but the next screen always says " Please Wait" and stalls. I also notice the display never says "TMC" on the bottom like it does in other cars.
I have rebooted several times and also compared my settings to a new 2015 car and, from what I saw, all green menu items look ok.
Does anyone have suggestions who has done this conversion of had a similar problem?
I don't want to return to the dealer unless really necessary. It almost seems like CP wasn't done right though- but who knows since this is a conversion.

Subscribed to find out more. Good luck in the solution. Maybe to car has to "learn" that it now has 3G.

how long has it been since you put the sim card in? like Geo said above, it could be that its still DLing the maps or what not. the optimistic me tells me that wutever your experiencing is temporary. the pessimistic me tells me that something might be wrong. i would suggest maybe updating the firmware via SD card or DVD.

My final conclusion is that Google Earth is just not loading properly.
Once I disable GE (in the green screen) everything else works beautifully!
I have to believe there is a connection issue (although my SIM card data increases every time I restart GE), but activating GE just bogs the whole MMI down. I have a feeling that deleting GEMMI cache was not a good thing and may be the issue [headbang]- but how to resolve this? I keep restarting GE and also leaving the MMI on after shutting the car off hoping for GE to finish updating.
Any tricks on updating GE would be helpful???

Interesting that you think that the cache has something to do with it. Maybe it needs to cache in a few versions of mapping info in your area before performance speeds up? Try to be patient and zoom in / out / around and see if that helps.

I only say that the cache is effecting it because I checked (almost) every other setting and that matches to a car that is new and functioning. I am waiting for a few other screen shots to verify some connection settings. That coupled with the fact that I did delete cache- although it looks like most of it is loaded (again waiting for screen shots to verify). I have seen others around the globe with similar issues- no posted resolution though (other than one chap who replaced the whole MMI- and I hope that is not the resolution for me)

do you have a tmobile SIM card? if you have any other carrier other than tmo, you will not get the full 3G connection, but get Edge. could be the reason why google earth is so slow...

Yes, I have T-Mobile and I see the data connection (and have used in-car wifi- so I know data connection works).
I compared it to another car (2015 S4) and looked at the green menu, I only find one difference I have no idea how to change.
Under the Config menu, show network configuration displays the following screen. On line 2, my car shows HBpersistence/ incar exists and all other screen shots I see online (including a friends local car) shows HBpersistence/ useDHCP and I've no idea how to change. I tried several toggles in the config menu, but nothing.

i doubt this is your issue, but you never know...
the only way to make changes to HBpersistence is to solder wires onto the service port and boot into the terminal to make changes to HBpersistence. its not for the feint of heart and you need a decent soldering iron so you don't short any of the gold fingers when tacking the wires on.
